Thought on Alphonse Taylor

  • I feel that the guys at #247Sports are the best in the business in regards to the rankings. In just two years, they've done a great job with the rankings. However, I suspect that we will look back in 3 years and determine that freshman Alphonse Taylor was a solid miss in the rankings (not listed in the Top247).

247Sports rated Taylor a 4 star with a 91 rating and the 13 best player in the state. In hindsight, I suspect he will be in the top 5. It could be worse, Rivals rated him a 3 star (no . 16 in the state).

From what I'm hearing, Taylor could excel on the defense or offense, but could be the answer at LG in two seasons. His measurables are off the charts, but the thing that stands out the most to me was something that Tim Watts told me back in November. I ask him about Taylor as a prospect and Tim was extremely high on Taylor. He noted that Taylor was one of those prospects that could go to any school he wanted to in the SEC -- from Vandy to Alabama. Few kids from Davidson or Mobile for that matter can make that claim.

Here's his Player Profile page. Betting this kid is going to be a hidden gem in the class:

LG? Interesting. Lucky, I thought he was being looked at seriously for NG or has that ship sailed? I know things can change but is he being looked at more on the offensive side of the ball?

  • I think AT can play both LG and NT because his measure favor him at both positions. I think he needs to get his foot work better at LG or RG which ever one they need him at the most. But I feel like he will do his best work over on the defense side of the ball at NT.

  • I will say again, I hope to see TJ run behind Taylor and Cyrus.

  • Lucky, does that mean AT would beat out Steen? Leaving AT and CW as the 2 guards?

    Devon97

  • Does Bama not want him at NT? Didn't take McClusters so the depth at NT would be a little thin . Who else would Bama have to fill that void besides Big Lake and Brandon Ivory and maybe Pagen if he adds weight . Bama has some good guard prospects coming to fill holes left of the oline , at least I thought so front the articles I've read . Is there somebody at NT I'm forgetting about ? Any recruits this cycle Bama going after for NT?

  • Lucky, if it works out that he's our next great LG then so be it. But I was really looking forward to seeing a big Mount Cody type player clogging the middle. In Saban we trust! RTR!

I wouldn't expect to see him at NG. Read TideNFLA'S blog, there's something about that on his latest post.

does he still have Duron Carter coming back for Spring?

  • AT has the size to play either hope he excels at what ever position he ends up playing. Does he display the mean streak CW does ?I love the way CW plays the guard position . Lucky do you see AT having more upside than CW did cin out of high school?

Couple questions Lucky and thanks for the info. Does this mean Ivory has been looking at good at NG? I would think that if he wasn't going to be able to handle it that we wouldn't have moved him.

Also, does this mean that Lake is a strictly NT? I know it has been mentioned that he would play a role similar to Dareus and Williams.

    Thanks for the info.

I am by no means the expert here, but this is what I've been told.

Ivory is good but inconsistent. He will contribute, but nowhere near taking over the position. The staff feels very good about Williams and his role.

Not sure that Lake is expected to contribute this season. However, been told that the staff is super, super high on this kid. In fact, might make the case he was one of the top 5-6 prospects signed -- if you just look at ability and upside. Yes he is raw, but he has a chance. No clue if he will come in ready and can't learn enough to give them some snaps this season.

  • Just deleted said blog info from this thread.

I'm pretty open to what gets posted here, even from Rivals, Scout and ESPN. However, we will not allow anything from said blog to appear on the Round Table.

    Have no interest.
