Just deleted said blog info from this thread.

I'm pretty open to what gets posted here, even from Rivals, Scout and ESPN. However, we will not allow anything from said blog to appear on the Round Table.

    Have no interest.

didn't mean to stir the pot, its obvious there was some sort of falling out as I always found TiderNFL's posts to be pretty informative but it's clear his posts are no longer welcome. I didn't realize this when I posted the info so I apologize. Seems like I walked into a minefield blindfolded.

no problem Sauceman213. ... there's no issue here and I apologize if I made it seem that way.

  • think he could be a whale of a lg, but i just think we need a nose for the future. williams will graduate, leaving a very unimpressive brandon ivory left to compete with undersized wilson love and possibly darren lake

hope we sign one this class

  • One thing that I'm kind of wondering about Taylor's move was the whole numbers factor. When Love decided to leave the team before the spring (and seriously, why would anyone stick around for just spring practices?) it left Alabama with only 10 offensive linemen. When Chad Lindsay took a shot to the head and was sidelined, they didn't have two full units for practices until Taylor moved over.

    Just something to consider ...

True. The move to OL could be temporary and to have enough bodies there to practice. I am sure our staff will find the best place for this guy. Nice problem to have - a guy talented enough to play on either side of the line of scrimmage.

I am by no means the expert here, but this is what I've been told.

Ivory is good but inconsistent. He will contribute, but nowhere near taking over the position. The staff feels very good about Williams and his role.

Not sure that Lake is expected to contribute this season. However, been told that the staff is super, super high on this kid. In fact, might make the case he was one of the top 5-6 prospects signed -- if you just look at ability and upside. Yes he is raw, but he has a chance. No clue if he will come in ready and can't learn enough to give them some snaps this season.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a ton. Didn't mean to insinuate I was expecting Lake to contribute this year but was looking past this year after Williams leaves.

Thanks a lot. It is appreciated.

sorry guys. should clarify that I mean in two seasons.

i for one do nnot think it will be that long before AT contributes.. (would not evn be surprised to see him some at NT sooner than later regardless of wherr he is practicing today, considerng our lack of depth there)

  • Does Lake coming in this Fall factor into this decision?

Lucky lake was so ineffective in the all star game on tv I wonder what it is about him that makes people optimistic. Yes he's raw but has a great frame.
Couldnt he atleast have bull rushed a couple of times and blown up the OL?
    I don't get it
    Glad you're hearing good things

  • I really wish we would have taken that NG from the military school instead. We need a NG 100x's more than an OG.

  • We need two NG's and two QB's in this class.

does he still have Duron Carter coming back for Spring?

I expected better from you Lucky.

    Bring 'em on.

  • Taylor was a who has the bigger ***** contest between Saban and Jimbo. We should have taken the JUCO. I hope the insiders are wrong about Ivory.

  • Ivory will blow up some OL this year. not sure what the hold back on him is, maybe no ability to get to the passer, but the ability to blow up a C and G is there. he isn't pretty but he'll be a pretty effective player for us. watch this year and see what I'm talking about

  • I look at it like this... and not to dumb down the skill set at NG, but you can plug any huge dude in there and he should be OK with some game experience. If Taylor has good feet, then he may be better suited on the O-line. That coupled with tremendous D-line depth and light depth on the O-line makes this move pretty solid.

If I recall correctly, he only stated he had the opportunity to come back.

    And that would be correct.

Can you explain this to me? We have coaches that watch the team practice everyday in practice and who know 100 times more than you yet you think we need NGs and they don't. Can you explain that to me?

Not trying to be a dick but if NG was as big a need as you say and we have no depth as you say then why would we move a guy with all kinds of talent from that spot if we were a 100 times better at another spot?

I think he's going with the general thinking that you recruit NGs because great ones are rare and you backfill OGs with linemen who couldn't play other positions because anyone with the right build can be an OG. I agree with that to an extent but disagree that WE currently need NGs more than OGs.

We have quite a few very talented NGs and NTs but are dangerously thin on the OL. We have to build depth at OL any way we can right now. Taylor was taken over a pure NG for the simple reason that he is more versatile. I fully expect to see him settle in on D but for now, he's going to provide much needed depth at the position we are thinner. That's all there is to this move.

  • I don't know about the guard being easy to fill just look at the interior oline play for the titans last year. I think you need dominate mobile guard for a run game and interior pass protection. The dominate lines have good guard and tackles. I just can't see who besides D Lake , B ivory are true NT. could be wrong and this is just my two cents.
