Can you explain this to me? We have coaches that watch the team practice everyday in practice and who know 100 times more than you yet you think we need NGs and they don't. Can you explain that to me?

Not trying to be a dick but if NG was as big a need as you say and we have no depth as you say then why would we move a guy with all kinds of talent from that spot if we were a 100 times better at another spot?

It makes me question whether or not he does have all kinds of talent. NG's are far, far more important to a team than OG'ss. DL's make much more in the NFL too.

Guards are pretty easy to come by. There are a ton of guys that can be plugged in to that position. That is a big reason the rankings services and NFL teams do not covet them or rank them as high. There are always exceptions, though.

I've read the same things I'm sure you have read on here about Ivory. Maybe some just piggybacked on their thoughts, but there has been a lot of people saying the same thing. It would have been nice to have a guy like McCullers (who we passed on to get Taylor) and plug him in. We still have not had a true NG since Cody IMO. Chapman was good, and I think Williams is a beast, but I would have like to see Williams stay at sDE and get a huge NG to plug the middle. Either way it would be very nice to have options.

Maybe our guys just really hate our Guard situation. Maybe they feel Taylor will not be successful on the DL. Maybe he will be moved back. I don't know. But it would have been nice to have a true NG that would have been ready to play this Fall.

    SR- Jesse Williams 6'4" 320
    JR- Daniel McCulers 6'6" 380
    rSO- Brandon Ivory 6'4" 308
    FR- Darren Lake 6'3" 330

    Looks a lot better than:

    SR- Jesse Williams 6'4" 320
    rSO- Brandon Ivory 6'4" 308
    FR- Darren Lake 6'3" 330

    IMO

didn't mean to stir the pot, its obvious there was some sort of falling out as I always found TiderNFL's posts to be pretty informative but it's clear his posts are no longer welcome. I didn't realize this when I posted the info so I apologize. Seems like I walked into a minefield blindfolded.

I guess i'm always out of the loop. What happened to TiderNFL? I always enjoyed his posts, but I guess he did something not needed. Someone pm me if it doesn't need to be posted. Thanks.

I guess I read the updates on Ivory different than most. I have not seen the doom and gloom some on here have. I have heard the same thing Lucky has said. Good but not consistent. He only has to play a few snaps a game thiis year and by doing that he can learn more consistency by getting his feet wet.
My point is just that if the coaches that watch the team everyday in practice are moving a guy (Taylor) that has been said to have looked good as a true frosh at nose. Then we are probably not as bad at that position as some seem to think b/c I totally agree that a NG is way more important than a LG.

  • Lot of going back and forth on this issue but does every body realize that this is just Spring and that maybe we should let the coach's decide where we are thin at, etc. Maybe just maybe they are experimenting with these younger guys to see where they just "fit in" and to see exactly what they can do and what their mentality is at this moment. If AT is still on the LG status after fall practice then you can come back with a 3+ page back and forth.
