I think he'd even be a safe pick for the Jags at 2. But in an offense first league, he wouldn't get them closer to making the playoffs than a legit QB, OT or DE would. Now, Detroit has many of those pieces already in place, so it would make a lot more sense for them at 5.

From a rules standpoint, there is a big transition to the league for corners. Some of the plays Milliner made on Eifert would have drawn a flag in the NFL. I think he'll actually be better in press than off coverage early on.

I agree with your analysis that Dee would be a realistic pick for Detroit. Is there a QB in this years draft that should be worthy of a top 10 pick? Dee plays a lot bigger than 200 and that'll play to his strength by jamming the WR, TE at the LOS. Regardless, Milliner is hitting pay dirt come 1st Rd of the draft. Question is.. How much?

I don't see a QB out there worth taking top 10 and that's gotta help Milliner and others. Again, I think he's a top 10 talent and I won't be surprised if a team takes him there.

I actually hate the direction the NFL has taken and don't watch as much compared to 10 years ago. It resembles the B12 with all that passing and no defense. I'll always watch the Bama players but sometimes find it hard to watch a casual game.

    I have to agree!

Do I think he has top 10 pick ability? Yes. If I were a team picking in the top 10 of April's draft, would I take him? Probably not. Why? Because with the way the rules are set up (and will continue to change if favor of the offense) it's becoming more important for corners to be able to tackle than anything else. In other words, you can have all the speed and hips in the world but you're going to have a tough time dealing with NFL receivers in the current climate.

Now, in a year like this one, when there isn't an abundance of sure-thing talent at quarterback, defensive end and wide receiver, perhaps I'd give stronger consideration to a corner in the top 10. But if there are strong options at any of those three spots (and offensive tackle), that's where I'd be looking. In fact, I'm starting to think that having a great coverage linebacker is more important in today's NFL than a good corner.

    TR

Top 10 pick period. I can read ( it becoming more important for corners to be able to tackle than anything else) leads readers to think your saying he can't tackle well. That's why some posters were disagreeing with what was written. It doesn't mean your knocking Dee, it's just an opinion. Just like my opinion, it's a pass happy league and your going to need great corners to cover great wide reciever play. I agree, the rules are set up for offenses but teams are always looking for a equilizer. There is a corner picked every year in the top ten.

  • I disagree with you.

But I must comment about the down votes. You gave an opinion. One that is backed up by logic and evidence to an extent. Do I agree with it? No I don't. But that is ok because you have a basis for your opinion and I could post stuff on the opposite side and let people decide. Yet you get down voted because of the unpopular topic.

And people can use that button how they see fit, but it amazes me how folks use if they simply have a different opinion. I guess my own use of that button is for stuff that has zero basis in reality or is super homer posts.

BTW, go back and look at the dash board on the most downvoted topics and many (not all) are ones that over time have proven to be dead on. The converse is true with many of the most upvoted ones because people upvoted for stuff they wanted to hear.

  • Some are just too blinded by you not saying that every Alabama player should be drafted #1 overall TR to see you are reflecting on the direction of the league.

Well said. Rules favor receivers over defenders, but that doesn't mean the NFL is going to turn into the Big 12.

Also, the concept of NFL positional value is starting to fade quick due to rookie salary caps. If a team wants/needs a player they don't think will be on the board with their next pick, they draft them. The days of hand-wringing over drafting a skill player "too high" when everybody knows you only draft linemen and QBs in the first X picks are over.

  • I totally understand your point. I being an old coach dont watch the NFL like I used to. I watch the Bama Boys play in those games and support them. The NFL has gotten so "Commercialized" it not the game I grew up loving. The league and the owners are businessmen who havent experienced the true game first hand. I understand they have to sell tickets and usually make rules to protect their investment and not the integrity of the game or the skill involved in playing the entire game. It is sad to see it go in the direction it is going. Just a rant for an old fogey I guess.

Maybe a mod getting unnecessarily DV'ed will serve to prove how silly a system it is
