Understand, my thoughts are more about the direction the league has and will continue to take and not Milliner's ability. The NFL has pretty much rendered corners defenseless.

Do I think he has top 10 pick ability? Yes. If I were a team picking in the top 10 of April's draft, would I take him? Probably not. Why? Because with the way the rules are set up (and will continue to change if favor of the offense) it's becoming more important for corners to be able to tackle than anything else. In other words, you can have all the speed and hips in the world but you're going to have a tough time dealing with NFL receivers in the current climate.
Now, in a year like this one, when there isn't an abundance of sure-thing talent at quarterback, defensive end and wide receiver, perhaps I'd give stronger consideration to a corner in the top 10. But if there are strong options at any of those three spots (and offensive tackle), that's where I'd be looking. In fact, I'm starting to think that having a great coverage linebacker is more important in today's NFL than a good corner.

What I like about BOL in relation to other sites is the professionalism of the staff and the excellent writing. I also appreciate staff opinions written from what they really think. I am suprised at the down votes for your honest opinion...all you have to do is visit the site across the state and many others and read all the homer worshiping nonsense to see what they are missing in regards to quality writing. Travis, I respect your opinion although if I owned an NFL team and needed a DB I would jump on Milliner, because he is a winner trained by the best. It is real honest opinions backed up by thoughtful reasoning that make this site what it is...so +1 to you for going against the grain to express an opinion. Keep it honest and keep giving us Bama folks your real thoughts.

I know you were joking, Travis, but I think we can both see the fallacy in your logic. (These guys miss sometimes or even often... therefore these guys' opinions don't mean anything). We all understand that these guys miss sometimes, but they are the coaches who see the game close up and know it better than anyone and the owners who have enormous financial incentives to chose correctly. Four corners have been top 10 pics in the past 3 years and they are the fifth highest paid position counting the top 5 salaries at each position (in fact, top end corners made within $1 Million of what top 5 WR did in 2012). I disagree with your assertion that elite Wide Receivers are markedly more valuable than elite Corners. A CB shutting down a WR is harder than a WR separating from a corner, as you already stated. Wouldn't it follow logically, then, that the number of people with the talent level to match up with #1 WRs is fewer than the number out there with #1 WR skills? Therefore, if you find a guy who can match up with a WR, it seems that he would be more valuable than the receiver himself from a pure supply perspective. Of course, demand must also be taken into account, which I recognize would likely favor the WR, but I still think that it's remiss to ignore the supply side of things and only take demand into account. I think that may be why your analysis is out of line with that of the experts and the rest with a skin in the game. I like the boldness of the claims. I just disagree with them.
