Ticket prices to nat'l title game

It depends on how late you waited for reservations. Samp21 and I got our reservations back in February for the Club level sideline at $200 per. So it will be $550 total for each ticket which is fair for a game of this type. And no we are not selling

I reserved two on Feb 3rd and paid $181 for the reservations. Face value on my two tix I paid for the other day was $300 each. So I have two NC tix and paid $781 for the pair. Its a risk I was willing to take, because if Bama had not made the game, I would have lost the $181.

  • I understand supply and demand. The purpose of my post was to Try and get across what darth tider posted. There are tons of fans that sit in Tuscaloosa ever Saturday that do not get a chance to watch a nat'l title game live because 4 tickets cost them what a package of season tickets would for a season in Tuscaloosa.

  • I am real happy for all you people that got ticket reservations back and January and so on. However, most people have never heard of the whole "idea" of the ticket reservation. I had never heard of it until the the '09 championship when I was looking for tickets. You can be sure I will buy my reservation early for the years to come.

  • So would it be safe to assume that this would be a good way to make money the years that your team doesn't go the MNC? Just reserve tickets at the beginning of the year and if your team doesn't go sell the tickets to the opposing teams for a lot of money? Or is it a stipulation that if your team doesn't get in you are not allowed to buy the tickets?

Exactly. The primary problem is not with the price of tickets. The problem is that you have an event where hundreds of thousands of fans who regularly go to games (at least 100,000 from each school) want tickets, but there are only 40,000 +/- seats available to them. How do you determine who of the hundreds of thousands of interested fans gets the limited available seats?

You don't get a chance to buy tickets if your team doesn't go. You are out the reservation fee. However, not all of the BCS bowls are like that. I was able to buy a package last year through the Fiesta Bowl. I had to buy tickets to the Insight Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and NC game. I paid face value for the package. I didn't make much (because I sold well before tickets were going for $2K a pop) because the Fiesta Bowl matchup was crappy. Those tickets cost me $700 and I sold them for $100. Same thing with the Orange Bowl. I could have bought Orange Bowl tickets this year to have the opportunity to buy NC game tickets next year, but I didn't because I figured I'd lose money this year. I plan to buy them next year though if available. I'll probably have to pay $2K for 4 tickets, but I know I'll make that money back easy if Bama doesn't make it to Miami.

Edit: If they do offer reservations I'll probably just do that though. I know the Fiesta Bowl didn't offer them last year.

If your team does not make the game, you do not get to buy the tickets at face value.

No, as has been stated if the team you picked fails to make the BCSCG then you lose your money. But you can try to use it as a way to make money if you want. Just reserve tickets very early for the top two teams that you think will make the big game. If either team makes it you can then sell you tickets and make a nice profit. If both teams you picked make it then you make a killing. If neither makes it you lose money. That's how it works and there are a ton of folks doing it. I know people who bought reservations for Bama and Oklahoma. They lost the Oklahoma money but more than made up for that with the Bama pick. I just picked Bama but was tempted to pick Oklahoma as well. Glad I didn't. BTW, I would never sell my Bama tickets but many buy these reservations who never have any intention of attending the game whatsoever. I call them scalpers.

Actually there's some self righteous misinformation in this thread. Yes, there is a lot of demand for the thickets due to the proximity of the two teams.

But the ABSOLUTE OVERWHELMING reason why ticket prices for the title game are through the roof is because the allotment to the universities after media, sponsors, friends of the program is microscopic.

It's sad. But like everything else in college football, money sets the rules.

I think the schools last year both got fewer than 10k tickets each. You guys can get on your high horse about "fair market" value you and "capitalism." But at the end of the day, the fair market value is exponentially affected because of the fact that those assholes have decided to give the actual fans so few tickets.

You don't understand what you're talking about. The only way that the ticket prices will not approach market value is if they are allotted for a fixed price with effective restrictions on transferability. A good example of that is the student ticket distribution method. If the tickets are easily transferable, the price will ALWAYS rise to the market price.
