I couldn't tell that the student section was any louder than the rest of the stadium, and I sit directly across from them.

You don't even believe that yourself.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but personally I think you all need to quit your bitching. We just had a great win and from the look of things, the stadium was a great atmosphere. Some of y'all freak out if you see a sliver of grey in the stands. Enjoy the win and quit complaining.

Older people have no business complaining of students moving around or leaving early when a large percentage of you are never really there to begin with. Sure, your bodies are there, but you don't make noise and complain when others do. So when everyone decides they want to be like lsu and actually get into the game then by all means complain about the students. Until then, stfu.

Well said....everyone wants to get in everyone elses business....never heard so much bitching about a crowd even when they do it right.....I swear some people need to just shut the hell up..

  • I cheer, and I listen, and the crowd cheering all around the stadium was outstanding yesterday, but other than that constant murmur that come from the student section, i really can't say that they were much louder than the rest. At the end of the game the rest of the crowd was equal on Rammer Jammer.

Maybe so but i wish they would cheer a little bit more during the game as well, but its is their right to be quiet, which is why I don't complain in these threads that happen year after year after year, however the students were rocking and Dre came and celebrated with US after the game because when Arkansas had the ball it was the students making it hard for the QB the check off. Nobody but the few of you who endlessly complain about this seem to notice, why dont you look at the field and not at the stadium or line up before the gates even open or have a clue what its like to be a student right now at the university before you try and tell other people how to act.

I think people that cant bask in a great win against a quality opponent, in front of a very large crowd that was instrumental in the win yesterday need to just mind their own business. I spend alot of money to let my daughter go the University and I dont need every week after the students and fans "do their job" and help the team win big....its shameful that you constantly harp on who is sitting where, the students want to sit together...and you are so unbelievable in complaining about this every week...even when the kids do well...your complianing...I got a message for you...get a petition that states everyone has to sit in their assigned seat, and stand the whole game, and yell....see how many sign on!! Im just a little tired of you know it alls ragging on these kids even when they are instrumental on winning the game...you disgust me dude..

Bingo!!!! You idiots who constantly complain about students should shup up!!! They support the players, coaches, band and every other PARTICIPATE in the game day experience.

The students were awesome on Saturday.

  • Tuition going up and enrollment going up in a neccessary if the University wants to continue to become an elite institution. There is no way around that. Students that are just there for the college experience and to find a spouse may not get it.

At the moment all the improvements that Dr. Witt has made have grown the enrollment and the prestige of the University as it can be seen in the ranking of Universities. Alabama in now up to #75 in the country as far as academics are ranked.

This may not mean a lot to some students, but when it comes to getting in to the Law School, Medical School, or any other Graduate Program of your choice, it makes a huge difference. The goal for the University is to achieve tier 1 status. That gives all students an equal playing field when having a chance to get selected in to Master's and PhD programs all over the country. I saw this happen first hand as many students that had a lower GPA and lower test scores got in to certain programs ahead of me just because they had gone to Texas, UGA, UVA, Florida, Clemson, and other schools that used to be ranked much higher than the University.

This can more than make up for the increases tuition at Alabama if a graduate does enough during their career to take advantage of it. Today's graduate has so much more of a chance to get into other prestigious programs around the country after they complete their BS thanks to these improvements.

As the University continues to evolve, grow, and improve, tuition will continue to rise. THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA does not want to be Auburn, UAB, Troy, South Alabama, or any other second rate University that wants to be for "everyone." 10-15 years ago, the University was not ranked any higher than some of the other schools in the state and was lower ranked than Auburn as recent as 6 years ago.

To tie this in to the student section topic makes no sense. If a student is going to the University to go to football games, save your parents some money by going to Shelton St or Jeff St for a couple of years and then transfer to UAB or something. You can buy a season ticket package from a scalper a lot cheaper than the difference in tuition to go to a lesser school.

If you decide to go to the University of Alabama anyway, be thankful. You get what you pay for.

  • I am very happy with the prestige and the tuition is going to be expensive, it is everywhere but I work for the university while I go to school so I kind of get to see a little bit of both worlds. Any student who has the drive and intelligence can get an amazing education my main concern is that the other students, the people who can only afford an in-state school and want to try and get a good education who may not be the most naturally intelligent person in the world kind of gets left behind and its not always clear where to go to get the help they need. Some of these classes have become a little bit too much computer based with real teaching being left on a video. I have gotten a great education but I have seen some people trying very hard and having to struggle to find somebody to teach them what a professor or a graduate student teacher should have, I am talking about people who go to class. it is not universal and I don't know how tenure and all of that works but it is just something I have noticed.

I have just seen a lot of references to how amazing the students are always treated and it is usually by people who don't go to school here at this time and it is just not entirely accurate.

  • Screw the administration for putting students in a damn upper deck. Endzone is bad enough. Season tickets for students cost well over $3000 per season.

  • No, the actual STUDENTS at the university deserve the tickets.

  • insider#1:

I understand everything you just said. I am actually an adjunct professor at UA and see both sides of it from time to time as well. I don't have to deal with a lot of the crap and politics that a tenured professor has to deal with, but I get to see it from time to time.

I wish everyone had an equal oppurtunity as well, but here's the deal:

College is not for everyone. When we start to try to make each University for everyone, it will become just as awful and diluted as public education is in this entire country.

Part of the problem is that there is a lack of care at the high school level and with parents. There are kids that counselors at the high school level should be sending to a Junior College to get more of the one on one attention so that they can be more prepared to enter a 4-year Institution. Also, parents let their kids choose what they want or what their parents want for them and not always what is best for them.

College should be made to be as close to the real world as possible and unfortunately in the real world, if you get lost, you get left behind. I know some friends that couldn't get through the math lab courses (I never had to take them) at UA when I was there (yes we had them then too) as well and as unfortunate as it is, they really shouldn't have been in school there to begin with.

I know this is not the nicest way to go about things, but if college was so easy, everyone would have a degree and that piece of paper wouldn't be worth the paper it is printed on.

I agree with that but I wish that the advising that happened at orientation was a lot more personal, I feel like these high school kids get kind of thrown to the wolves sometimes and they could succeed here if they talked about their skills a little bit more,so that they can start out on the right path. no need for a person who is not going to be able to pass those mathlab courses to ever start off in the business school or on a Finance program and waste that time and money and lower GPA. And the way the new Statistics course is run is terrible I think as well as the teachers who do not speak well enough to properly communicate their idea. I think if a student fails a class where the teacher can't speak well enough to explain things in multiple ways just got robbed. and more and more it seems like it is beneficial for the university for the students to fail a class it just means more tuition, perhaps another year of rent in an oncampus dorm who knows. I was talking to a girl the other day that had been in a Math class like 5 times. there is no excuse for that but I think after 3 her advisor could have said have you thought about english or history. what did you get your phd in if you dont mind me asking?
