Thanks for the reply.. I was hoping we had a Title in another sport way back when that I couldn't find, but I guess not.. Well here's to hoping that we can add a Title this year in Softball, Mens Golf, and Womens Golf..

I know that our womens wheelchair basketball team has won a couple of national championships. Also cheerleading won a national title.

Those girls are pretty dang good. I count those as well. Way I see it we have 24 titles!

  • I do not think the cheerleading counts - its not a sponsored NCAA atheltic event like the others. While it may be the D1 Collegiate cheerleading national championships or whatever exact termonology they use - it can't be in the same class (sponsership wise and classification) as the actual sports teams would be???

It may not count in most peoples eyes but Nick and Terry Saban recognized them as they purchased rings for the cheerleaders after winning it all 2 years ago and Dave Hart ademantely refusing to recognize their accomplishment. I know alot of people respect Hart but he is a pos in my book. I think the cheerleaders would agree. 24 titles!Edit... 25 counting fishing!

Dude, I wasn't saying it doesn't count relative to our pride in them winning and the great work the young ladies have done...and young men. That is a huge accomplishment. However, if you had maybe seen all the post in this thread you would have caught on that I was answering the post above as to does the title count in our NCAA records for total championships. The answer to that is No, it doesn't. And therefore my post. lolheadslap

The accomplishment, for the girls, guys, the coaches, the University is AWESOME and should be recognized as such. For the official Championships - well that's a different debate and that was the question here at hand. O and GO Bama Fishing!!! Big one, its a Big one. reel reel reel reel yank it in. WOO HOO.....fishing

They truly are and Terry had more to do with it than Nick but there is more to the story of Hart leaving to get his promotion at uthug than meets the eye. I'll count every one we get regardless of how it is or not recognized. The Sabans do alot that goes unnoticed. Outstanding people and worth every penny.

  • Here's the deal with national championships:

It is 20 - 14 by football and 6 by gymnastics.

Wheelchair basketball, cheerleading and many other clubs (forensics, etc...) have won championships, but those are not university-sanctioned - ie. don't go through the athletic department.

You can blame Dave Hart, Mal Moore, whoever, but the NCAA does not have a cheerleading championship, which was why the athletic department could not formally recognize them.

Softball and men's and women's golf certainly look to be on their way to adding to that total very soon, however - this year or in years to come.

    Just wanted to clarify.

  • You count the ones you want and I'll count them like I want. I'm sure the athletic dept funds both cheerleading and wheelchair bball. The problem with Hart is he refused to recognize them at all. They weren't expecting a trip to the white house but a pat on the back would have been sufficient. Didn't get that either. Cheerleading nattys are sanctioned by UCA and not NCAA I get that and this is a mute point as Hart is gone. He'll fit in fine in Knoxville.
