Tuesday's coaching rumors/reports

  • From 247's Aubrey Bloom on the Gigem site:

According to 247Sports sources, Larry Fedora has accepted the position at the University of North Carolina. Fedora, a native of College Station, had been a leading candidate for the job at Texas A&M and interviewed yesterday for the position.

According to CarolinaBlue's sources, Fedora has not yet signed his contract, but will be meeting with his team in Mississippi today to tell them that he's taking the job at North Carolina. According to that source, Fedora said that he would not sign an official contract without telling his team in Mississippi. According to the source "this is how he operates."

Texas A&M's search continues with Kevin Sumlin, Troy Calhoun, and Kirby Smart as leading candidates among those who have interviewed for the position.

  • Just FYI, we haven't confirmed that Smart interviewed, but we're watching the situation closely.

You may remember that Aubrey was the guy who first said that Texas A&M was heading to the SEC and was initially roasted only to be proven right.

  • Is Gus to Kansas still in play? Or has Mrs. Kristi scared them off too?

"That's what people know us as..ya understand!"

    HeHateMe

  • BTW, for those of you wondering about Charlie Strong, the Louisville coach will earn $2.3 million this season -- not including incentives. Should he terminate the contract to take another job before June 30, 2012, he would owe the school $2.5 million.

As for Kansas, it doesn't appear to be very along in the process. Lots of names floating around (none with an Alabama connection yet).

  • What about CJM? Is his name being thrown around anywhere?

  • Thanks for the updates.

Troy Calhoun sure votes like a SEC coach.

Check out Travis's post that is pinned at the top. He basically says that Fresno's financial troubles rules them out.

  • Just changed the title of this thread to include another report.

The Commercial Appeal has three people as possible candidates for Memphis:

Randy Fichtner: The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach, a former U of M offensive coordinator.
    Terry Bowden
    Jim McElwain
    Mike Stoops

I don't like seeing McElwain's name listed with Bowden and Mike Stoops.

He is a much better coach than he seems to get credit for.

  • If it wasn't for the shortage of money, i know how they feel, CJM would be high on Fresno's list.

  • If Fresno is bad Memphis is right behind them.

I think some of these guys are just trying to get a feel for the process of getting a HC job relative to the Hot asst coaches being mentioned. Leaving a high profile asst job (assuming you are making good money) to be the HC at a struggling program isn't an easy thing to do.

To me that USM job should attract a good coach.

That's a good job and it will be interesting to see what route they go.

I assume they will go after a young pass happy coach similar to Fedora.

  • Add another Alabama assistant coach to the wanted page. It looks like Arkansas is going to fire DC Willy Robinson. Sal Sunseri is on their wanted list. I can't see him taking the job especially when his son is on his team. I know he tried to get the Pitt Job llast year but that is his Alma mater, a head job, and his other son is the QB. This is what happens when you are good. People want your coaches.

He probably has a good idea of what is going on with Kirby and what that potentially means for him. Hopefully we don't lose Coach Sunseri to a SEC school.

You are might get some down votes but I will trust you mean well and will +1 you just in case someone does downvote you.

Deloss Dodds came out already and was very vocal about how Mack Brown isn't retiring. Mack will take over as AD when he retires also. He isn't leaving Texas. So, this rumor is being circulated by fans of our rivals to make themselves feel better about the future.

This link is to an AP article. This story was reported on every major sports website. Things can change but DeLoss isn't leaving any wiggle room with this story.

Texas Longhorns athletic director DeLoss Dodds says Mack Brown to remain coach - ESPN

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds went on the offensive Sunday to knock down rumors that football coach Mack Brown is retiring or being forced out after a 7-5 season, saying the program and coach are in for the long haul together.
