UA hoops 3-0 in three SEC home games despite averaging...

  • ... 21 points in the first half of those contests. However, averaged 38 points in the second half while outscoring Tennessee, A&M and UK by an average of 10.6 points in the final 20 minutes of those games. Limited UT, A&M and UK to average of 27.3 points in second half.

  • Jacobs and Gueye didn't make all-SEC tonight but they were vital in UA getting the win. Perhaps Jacobs is turning the corner.

  • I really think Pollard will come around at some point. I just hope it's sooner than later. That would be a great boost for us. Randolph played well in the first half especially. I think this was a great team win.

    hope so...if we could get a consistent 10 and 7 out of him we would be in much better shape, and gueyes 5 blocks are better than any amount of scoring he could ever do

    Wait, this can't be. This is Alabama basketball.

    If we can shoot a high % 3's to go along with the defense we play, this can be a successful program. We are behind the 8 ball a tad bit already this year, but that is very promising.

  • Grant made a great adjustment in the 2nd half putting Pollard and Cooper on Kyle Wiltjer instead of Steele. Those two denied him entry passes for most of the half and made it near impossible for him to tough the ball or get clean looks. Was surprised Dykes didn't mention it.

    Wiltjer made it look so easy the first half even though he looked so slow at times. Deceiving player..smart player to boot. Hemming him up was key.

  • We have to improve our offense. That is one of the things I gripe about on Grant. We have to have a better offense. In the 2nd half the movement without the ball and the passing of the ball looked better. He obviously knows how to get effort out of his teams and to coach some defense. He did a nice job last night getting the W, doing subs at the right time, and everything else. Congrats to Grant and the team. But we really need some better O to stop digging us a hole.

    That was good to see with Jacobs too....he bounced back after getting owned by Noel earlier in the game.

  • I actually thought our offensive movement last night consistently looked much better than previous ballgames. Kentucky doesn't play nearly as good of halfcourt defense as they have the last two seasons, but they are really really long and athletic and have an eraser inside. We moved the ball and got some pretty decent looks for a large portion of the game, specifically the second half. Our guys just seem to really struggle from 10-15 feet (except for Randolph last night who had 4-5 really nice pull up jumpers).

  • Looking at the next ten games, no UA opponent with an RPI higher than 80 (Arkansas). The good news: all those games are winnable. The bad news: in a league whose RPI ranks eighth, winning those 10 games wouldn't do much for UA's RPI (53), while losing a few would be damaging. Still no room for error when looking at Alabama's at-large hopes.

    BTW, after last night's loss to UA, Kentucky now has an RPI of 59. Not to worry, though, because the only rating that matters where Big Blue's tourney chances are involved are the Nielsen ratings.

    Kind of worries me if it comes down to us and Kentucky for a 4th spot from the SEC.

    If it's UA and UK for a spot, start talking spring football. Not just TV ratings that help UK; Big Blue fills seats and hotels like no other.

    I agree. I also think that the thought process of giving the edge to Kentucky for the simple fact of letting the team that won last year have a chance to defend their tournament win will hurt us if it comes to it.

    This and the reasons you gave are reasons that we might need to finish 23-8 (15-3) to feel very good about our chances. That would be 11-2 down the stretch which is hard to imagine. A slip up against another team outside the top 100 could spell doom and could leave us really needed Kentucky to pick up some bad losses as well.

    If they are in the top 60 RPI, they get in, IMO. If we aren't in the top 50, I think we will be counting the conference tournament upsets. I would think that we should be just inside the top 50 at the moment after that win, and Kentucky should be just outside the top 60. There are only 2 more games for us outside the SEC tournament that could really move the needle. Unfortunately, Kentucky will have about 4 more chances to do so. Would be great to see Florida sweep them convincingly and for them to lose to either Mizzou or Ole Miss.....or both. Obviously going to Texas A&M will tough for them as well.

    thats the crappy part...we play a bunch of garbage that we probably have a 50/50 chance of losing to on any given night...granted, we will probably win 7 out of those ten, but those three losses will kill us
