UGA's Defense

  • I live in Georgia so I hear it constantly about how their defense will be the best in the nation this upcoming season. Am I the only one who thinks they are in for a disappointment? They gave up alot of points to every good team they played and did shut out weak opponents. Right now they are talking about how great the D was against LSU in the championship. Objectively, do you think Grantham is the elite DC they are making him out to be? I don't think one good season where you lost every game against a quality opponent makes you an elite DC. Personally, I think UGA loses to Missouri and South Carolina.

    I think he is very good. & UGA's defense will keep them in every game. & I think Coach Saban would hire him if the chance ever came about.

  • I know you cannot always compare games against similar opponents and get a good read on teams. However, when I look at how we dismantled Michigan State and how UGA lost to nearly the same team the following year, I just don't see them having the success we have had or being near the team that we have been. I say this because the Georgia media is acting like they can be on our level and LSU's level this season.

  • The bigger X-factor is that the coaching staff had their jobs on the line last year. It seems like every year that UGA gets comfortable, their team gets complacent. Let's see how physical they can be this season.

  • Yes Grantham is an elite DC, we would go after him if Kirby left.

  • UGA will be good this year and I think defensively they will be pretty sound. They absolutely will not win the SEC however. I think they will have a 8 - 15 ranked D

  • UGA has a talented, veteran D that should perform well. However the problem IMO with the entire Georgia program is they are a soft football team. When faced with teams that are mentally and physically tough, they wilt.

  • Their starting 11 will be able to play with almost anyone. Once you get into their depth chart is when it falls off.

  • Uga, Utenn and *U win their championships in June-July-August. Unfortunately, along comes Sept-Oct-Nov and there
    go those "championships", out the window into thin air.........Let them have their imaginary successes. Those are the
    only ones they really have. RTR!

  • Look at where their D has come from under Martinez to Grantham. Dude's done a great job and you can tell he's from the Saban defensive coaching philosophy. Without TG Richt would be a guest analyst on ESPN by now. Will their D be the best in the country, or even the sec? No. Will their D make them a strong contender and a favorite in nearly every game? Probably. Give them some credit, Grantham and their D is carrying that program right now.

  • They will have one of the most talented defenses in the nation this year. In fact, with their weak schedule they will probably be in the BCS talk at the end of the year. The only thing that may keep them out of it is their annual loss to UF (last year notwithstanding).

    To the main question: Yes i think he is an elite DC. This will be year 3 in his system and i look for UGA's D to be very good this year. Keep in mind they return 9 starters on a defense that was top 5 in the nation last year. Now as to whether they put it all together and win the East i really don't know but Grantham's D will be legit.

  • It will be an elite defense in game 4 possibly, when all of their players get back from suspension. Just ask Spurrier.
