Im from Mobile and I watched the game today and im glad UMS won. Very impressive. BUT.....My son went to St. Pauls and played with AJ, Barron, etc and won state with them so i have no love loss with UMS. I cant help but wonder why they are still in 4A. There campus is in midtown and the population there is cramped to say the least. Mcgill and Murphy are Two of the biggest schools in Mobile and are right around the courner and both are 6A. [Mcgill being private and Murphy public}. UMS moved to 5A a couple years ago and did ok but it was obviuosly a challenge for them. The next re-classifacation they drop back down to 4A. Cant help but wonder if they keep there enrollment down so they can stay in 4A and reep the benifits of the lower level compitetion. I suspect they do and by listening to Coach Curtis today talking up how strong 4A football is it just ticked me off that they should step up and play 5A. [BTW...they won 42-14}.
My point is that they are not breaking rules but are racking up state titles by staying in a lower classifacation. The talent there is strong and they are a magnet for elite student athletes. St. Pauls is the smallest 5A school in the state but they dont hold out to get an easier ride to the ship.
I guess im calling UMS out and saying stop low-balling and step up to the plate! With the resourses they have it is an unfair advantage to the rest of the teams in 4A.
Just my opinions...[suspicion]
A private school complaining about things being unfair??
