USC loses running back to a torn ACL

  • Just read this on ESPN. Said they now have only 3 running backs now on scholarship. I honestly dont see how in the hell this team is being ranked #1 or #2 next year. They do have a great QB and two great receivers, but other than that someone give me an honest reason this team should even be ranked in the top 5.

They lost their best lineman to the draft and their defense is average at best. They have no depth at any position and have 3 running backs total on the team.

And dont tell me they are ranked that high because they have an easy schedule; if that was the case Boise St. would be ranked #1 every year coming into the preseason.

If they played in the SEC I dont even think this team would come into the season ranked in the top 15. I have been saying this ever since the hype started when Matt Barkley came back; they will lose 2 or 3 games next year and be the most overrated team in the nation.

  • It's either because they have an easy schedule, or their superior HC shrug

    strykertidester

  • It's because they are not in the SEC & there is no other team in the nation outside of the SEC anyone would think could win it all.

  • no kidding, they're thin, and ... has ANYONE in the media remembere what probation is??? They'll suffer from the lack of depth, but the media is too stupid to look past the first team...

  • here is how I would break down their schedule:

Easy wins (Hawaii, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA)
Wins but close (Washingon, Cal, Notre Dame, Syracuse)
Games that could go either way (Stanford)
    Loses (Oregon, Utah)

I predict they go 10-2 or 9-3 in the regular season. And that doesnt take into the account the egg they normally lay once a year.

If Bama had this schedule we'd be catching hell as the easiest schedule in CFB.

Imagine "your wins but close" categirt (Washington, Cal, ND, Syracuse). For us they'd all be potential blowouts except maybe ND which I would see as a PSU game from the last 2 yrs.

Oregon would be the only tough game for us and I'd make them like Arkansas. We should win but maybe only by 1-2 TD's. Stanford should be in the category above without Luck.

The reason USC is there is because of this schedule. All they have to do is beat Oregon and they have them at home. It sucks but I'd give them 1-3 odds to get the NC which is probably the easiest of all teams.

To be fair, the first team isn't that good, either, but they have to find their Great White Hope somewhere.

  • They return the top QB in college football.
They return a 1000 yd back from last year.
They return 2 1000 yd receivers that both had double digit TDs.
They return a kicker that was 15-17.
They return their top 6 tacklers and 10 of their top 12.
They return the players accountable for 26.5 of their 30 sacks.
They return all the players accountable for their interceptios, minus 1 pick.

Wit that information, it is pretty easy to see how one could predict them to better their 10-2 record last year.

Our team's pretty good guys. We don't have to down play anyone else's talent to feel good about ourselves, especially "celebrating" an ACL tear.

This is my class. They're overrated. That has nothing to do with Alabama.

this is pretty darn close. They're a storied program who's not that far removed from a lot of success. They have what I call a "sexy" program with the LA life style, supported by movie stars, all the hot women...etc...One "expert" picks them to win it all, and everyone else jumps on board in fear of being left behind or being wrong. And the biggest reason, like you mentioned, is everyone is sick of the SEC owning college football.

Sports media has changed a lot in the last ten years, and this is a prime example.

Dude, I wasnt celebrating anything; I was making a point. They now have THREE running backs left total.

They have one of the top two QBs in the nation and probably the best 1-2 WR combo; BUT THAT IS IT. Their defense sucked last year so what does returning all of your top tacklers gonna do for you?

Barkley is gonna have to throw the ball 60 times a games because they will have zero running and their defense is gonna give up tons of points. And do you really think the 1st team offense and defense are gonna play all 80 plays in the game? What happens when they have to sub to give plays a rest? It is just ridiculous to think this team can go undefeated. They lose 2 games minimum. If they were in the SEC they probably wouldnt even come into the season ranked in the top 15. You cant rank somebody based on strength of schedule. Hell if that was the case Boise ST and TCU would have been coming in 1 and 2 every year

  • I'd love for them to run the table if Bama can get by too.

Idk much about USC at all. Is the RB they lost really so good that his absence will result in "zero running"? Are any of the others left on scholy not any good? TIA.

He was making the switch to RB from LB this offseason and was listed to be their #3 guy at best. He was going to maybe see time in short yardage situations at best.

  • I am gonna laughing so hard and giving all the people buying into the hype a big "Told you so" when they lose 2 or 3 game next year.

Barkley is not a Cam Newton. He is a better passer but he is not a threat to run and cant single handily take over a game by himself. They wont have a running game and teams either blitz or play coverage without having to worry about the QB making a 20 yard run.

Look at how many points the defense gave up last year. I am sorry but this team is so overated it is not even funny.

Why won't they have a running game?

They averaged 163 yards per game last year. They return 4/5 of their OL and their leading rusher (1000 yds +)

Also, teams weren't very successful blitzing last year as they only gave up 8 sacks all season.

Okay. Thanks. I think they'll be able to manage without him. They might be a little overrated, but they do seem to have a lot of offensive talent. Also, they play in a pretty weak conference. I won't be shocked if they make it to Miami and won't be if they don't either. I can't wait for the season to start.
