Update on what OSU needs if we're #2 in Wolfe (links inside)

  • They have to jump us by at least 4.872 points in the Harris Poll, which of course rounds up to 5 points. Looks great guys.

If we do hold on to one more #3 spot in the computers, they'd have to jump us by 62.37 (63) points in the Harris. Just FYI

  • The one to watch is Peter Wolfe. He's the one besides Sagarin that had us at #2 before our win over *U.

  • When can we expect the next poll to come out? Not the bcs final, but the polls that are used in BCS calculations..... tonight or in morning?

I'm looking for em. Don't know the answer to your question unfortunately.

  • Also, FWIW, if 1 more computer has us #2, then we can afford to lose 37% of the human poll vote instead of the 25% we're sitting at now. That's why it would essentially end the debate.

  • Links for other polls below (these should update when new rankings come out, though I don't know when that'll be):

  • Will somebody explain why one more computer poll having us #2 would make us a lock? I don't really understand the computer system.

  • Wolfe is our best shot.

  • Good stuff man... Sure wish we could find out when these other polls were updated

1 doesn't matter because high/low are excluded. If 1 more has us at #2, OSU's average rating in the computers would go from .960 to .950, and ours would jump from .920 to .930 (from the default position of unanimous at each spot). This would mean we could afford to lose 36.9% of the #2 spots in the human polls and still get in. OSU isn't going to get 37%, so we'd be a lock (IMHO).

  • Thanks for the links, great work explaining, you must be an accountant. Hope the others come out in the morning or sooner.

  • LSU winning again helps us here, as does the final week of the Big 12/10 beating on each other a little.

Why do you say Wolfe? I may be reading this wrong but we look to have a pretty sizable lead in Massy. It has Oregon ranked above Okie st. even with 2 losses. Seems like we would stay #2 in this computer ranking but what the hell do I know...

I thought this too but just noticed Oregon is actually 12 in the ranking used by the BCS. Still, we're very strong in Massey and I think we take that one.

  • Make sure you're checking the BCS ranking column on the right. Oregon is #12 in his BCS rankings. We only jumped OSU with the AU win when they were idle in his poll.

I'd say Massey will go their way simply b/c we only jumped them last week when they were idle and we beat AU. Seems to me they should jump us back this week in this poll. JMHO

I guess I can't read this Massey rating because it looks like to me that it has Okie st. ranked 4th but clearly that's not the case because the bcs shows them no lower than 3rd in all computer rankings. Anyone who's smarter than me care to explain what I'm seeing here?

Well, A&H doesn't matter b/c we'll be #3. Same with Colley. Sagarin already in.

    Leaves 3:

    1) Billingsley, which won't be updated until after BCS show. Per site:

"...rankings will be posted on Sunday afternoon’s by 2PM CT until the release of the first BCS Rankings on October 16. At that point the Billingsley Report cannot be posted until after the release of the official BCS Standings on ESPN at 8 PM CT Sunday nights"

    2) Massey, which appears to be updated every Monday (at least that's when last week's standings were updated)

    3) Wolfe, which I just can't tell when it updates. It's the one I'll be watching.

Changed Massey link. Should make more sense now. Re-click it.

nah, website just says it will be sometime today (12/4)

  • The computer polls need newer formulas when texas is at 7-4 at the time and is in the top 25. They lose all credibility. I bet any football fan with any common sense would laugh at that unless they were complete homers.
