  • I guess having a gun to protect him and his kind of backfired.
Gotta be sure before you pull a trigger.

  • Heard on the news they had had incidents before.... It will be interesting to see if this truly was an "accident."

  • The Times announced they're charging him with murder.

  • A bit different story.

'Blade Runner' Pistorius charged with murder after girlfriend shot to death in home | Fox News

Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, who became famous as the 'Blade Runner' when he competed in the 2012 Olympic Games, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after model Reeva Steenkamp was shot inside his South African home.

Looking more like he murdered her, so I'm going out on a limb and saying he was sure when he pulled the trigger.

Never presume guilt and always assume innocence, that said here there has to be and will be a heavy investigation as to whether or not it was really an accident.

  • in his defense I have spent time in south africa. several times i would come back to my gated apartment and have someone i didn't know hanging out in my house. Also, woke up 3 times having someone trying to break in to my pad.

  • I hope it was an accident but from what's being reported this morning it seems the police think otherwise.

  • Hearing he shot her four times I am going to say he murdered her. I mean the first time someone who I know tries to shoot me I am going to yell out "IT's ME, STOP!" Unless the first round hit her in the head then I am willing to bet he knew who it was. You dont just shoot your girlfriend four times and dont mean to do it.

Yep. There's more to this than a simple accident. Seriously doubt it would take that many rounds to put down a female intruder. Unless he was just firing blindly as many times as he possibly could, this sounds fishy.

    Exactly......

And we should be teaching people how to use them, instead of taking trying to take them away from people who know how or have them for self-defense. Like our buddy Chris Kyle was doing with Texas teachers before someone had him knocked off.....

It's Valentines Day, I don't need to go down this rd today...lol

Well. This is why you have to be absolutely sure before using lethal force to protect yourself. Once absolutely sure, you fire. And fire. And fire...

No one knows how many shots it will ever take to stop someone. But, I know how long it takes me to empty a mag. And the goal in self defense is nothing more than being the first to put metal on meat. More shots, the better the odds.

But yeah, this is looking like a non-self defense event.

No one is trying to take all guns (this one was a 9mm) away from lawful users.

Going out on a limb? That's cruel dude.

  • Sounds like an accident to me.

Guy had a phobia of being attacked. His phobia was well documented.

South Africa is a messed up place. No one should be sneaking in to surprise anyone at 3 am in that country. That's a sure fire way to get yourself shot.

I also don't see the logic in how the number of shots fired tells us anything. If was fearing for his life, real or not real, and felt as though he needed to shoot the person I would figure him to use as many shots as it takes to kill the invader.

In one article he talked about not even being able to trust police or guards cause they were a part of the gangs. My opinion is his family should have used some of their affluence to either leave that place or get him some help with his paranoia. However, as someone who lives in a very safe place in Alabama I have trouble understanding this story cause its so foreign to me.

That was probably in bad taste, but I laughed.

  • Split reaction actions are understandable. My house has gotten broken into before while I was home. Also, what this story neglects is the layout of the home (2-story, etc.) which would put a better light on the situation. Whatever happened to calling out your significant spouses name, assuming it might be her?
Also, I still can see reasonable in the dark, or house dark, and sure can see a silouette of a woman.
    Seems flaky IMO.
