  • I love reading threads like this. This week has provided a lot of info on how juries think.

Not a lawyer, but I feel his defense attorney could make a strong case that he is unfit to stand trial.

No one is trying to take all guns (this one was a 9mm) away from lawful users.

This is in the news TODAY.

Missouri Democrats introduced an anti-gun bill which would turn law-abiding firearm owners into criminals. They will have 90 days to turn in their guns if the legislation is passed.

    (1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;

    (2) Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or

    (3) Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.

    (4) Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution:

  • Yes, the initial reports were that it was an accident, but someone's still dead either way so it's still sad. We'll see what happens.

Congratulations on not even reading the thing you're citing. Every single part of that article says "assault weapon". Assault weapon does not mean gun.

    Gun

1a : a piece of ordnance usually with high muzzle velocity and comparatively flat trajectory
b : a portable firearm (as a rifle or handgun)
    c : a device that throws a projectile

I realize that the dictionary isn't really your thing, but it really is helpful at times. I would suggest to you that you refrain from inventing your own definitions of words to fit your agenda. Claiming that a rifle isn't a gun is extremely dishonest.

in his defense I have spent time in south africa. several times i would come back to my gated apartment and have someone i didn't know hanging out in my house. Also, woke up 3 times having someone trying to break in to my pad.

I've also been to South Africa twice...most recently in 1997...and it is an absolutely beautiful country. I would absolutely love to go back. Kruger Park is amazing. Imagine driving through a national park and seeing elephants, giraffes, lions, etc. That having been said...

    1. Restaurants all had burglar bars on the doors, locked, and would buzz you in before you could enter. Armed guard in the parking lot.
    2. I asked the front desk at the hotel where the nearest ATM was. The clerk told me, and then insisted upon sending one of the guard's with me. In broad daylight.

    This was in Joburg.

They don't charge people with murder if it was an "accident" (at least not typically).

You should really change the title of this thread.

The problem is that "assault rifle" is such an arbitrary and sensationalistic term that is merely a pawn to further certain agendas.

  • People who think he thought it was an intruder need to reseach the securiy that he had as well as the community security. They lived in an exclusive area that was extremly secure plus his house had state of the art security. I think this will end up as a murder commited while in a raging argument, which they had a history of.

  • I have a friend in Pretoria. She was carjacked once and her home broken into another time. Guard dogs are frequently poisoned so homes can be robbed later. Africa can be a cruel place and crime is out of hand. If this was in Europe or the US, I would never understand such a shooting, but considering how bad it is there, I can understand the paranoia and quickness to shoot first and ask questions later.
