We would be all over Saban if his players seemed unprepared.

  • Why let it slide in basketball?

I don't expect to be 14-2 right now, but we've dropped some games this year for our inablility to even attempt to penetrate the lane. Andew Steele is our one player that at least understands this.

Grant has to be hald accountable for something. He has gotten a free pass for the suspensions and I didn't expect to win every game without Greene, but I do expect to see certain fundamentals of the game executed, namely in breaking a zone. Same problem we had with the last coach, IMO.

How can other, much less talented teams understand this.

I love Grant's defensive intensity, although we do give up too many careless fouls out of frustration, but I can live with that.

Settling for 3 point attempts when wed have 2 guys in Greene and Jacobs that could have dominated tonight is inexcusable.

Remember this was a top 15 team 3 months ago.

A top 15 team with Green and Mitchell's heads screwed on straight. Don't let facts get in the way of a discussion though.

Who is accountable for their players being engaged in the team?

Would Saban have gotten a pass if Greg McElroy was a problem just because Shula recruited him?

If he continually suspends players and never does anything, do we eventually give him an extension for what could have been.

I like CAG and think he could be the guy to one day take Bama to great heights, but we have to take the next step eventually.

I am a supporter of the basketball team and attend just about every game and am disappointed in our progress. Doesn't mean I won't continue to support the team.

  • Would we? I know I wouldn't. When we didn't win the west or the SEC this year did we give up on the coach? It's pointless trying to make this comparison. Did you realize that if the conference basketball champion were determined like football that we would be in the championship game for the second straight season? There is a big difference in the process that Coach Saban has made famous and punking out on our coach because we lost by a few points to a decent Ole Miss team on the road.

    Free pass on the suspensions?

Good lord.....since when did we start denigrating coaches for disciplining players and suspending them when they broke rules?

We typically applaud coaches for doing what Grant did, including Saban when he has suspended players for whatever reason(s) he deemed necessary. But we're giving Grant a "free pass"?

First year: NIT bid, fizzle our
Second year: SEC West champion, NIT championship game
    Third year: NCAA bid

Seems like we're taking steps up every year...

I feel your frustration man but the fact is that as long as we make the tourney each year 90% of the fan base will be happy. It doesn't matter if we play great or not. Analyzing each game is irrelevant. You analyze basketball like our fans analyze and critique football, which is great. However most of our fans aren't up for a big critique over every game we play.

  • Pretty stupid comparison, IMO.

Don't know if the OP watched the same game I watched. In the game I saw, Bama failed to finish a lot of shots at the glass. Grant has the personnel on the court and gets them in a position to get shots like that. He can't actually do the shooting for them.

I can't remember, but did the OP bash Saban every time that Julio Jones dropped a pass that was right in his hands?

So, if people can't get along with their own groups, they go to tBB to join the OTHER outcasts, where they all upvote each other and join and sing songs together while they cry about how they are outcasts and it's all "badges of honour"? LOL....

  • I think people need to understand where we are as a program. We have 4 frosh playing significant minutes and they are not consistent. When these guys are playing well, we look really good...when they play like today, we look poor.

All that said, I like the team and I think Coach Grant is doing an outstanding job. We should have been in the dance last year and will likely make it this year. I think next year could be the big jump we make if we can land a good big guy to help out down low.

    You are nuts.
At some point instincts have to take over on the court. Our guys just don't seem to have either confidence or a ton of basketball "smarts".

The plays were there all day and our guys just did not see them. Today was very frustrating and if you watched coach Grant, he was frustrated from the start.

Basketball offenses are set up to set the players up to make plays and at some point the players have to make them. Our guys just seemed out of sync all day.

The question is if it's being unprepared or not playing well. Two totally different things.

We have lost at least 4-5 games this year where a couple shots or plays going our way and we'd have won - that's part of being a young team, relying on 4 freshman and having your "captains" getting suspended at crucial times.

Of course CAG has to be held accountable for something. He's not getting a free pass on anything, the team is playing ok and more importantly they are improving. We are on track to a NCAA bid, which is an improvement over last year.

If you have watched our last 8 games you'd see we are playing better. Of course, tonight wasn't good, but we'll battle back and hopefully build off of it.

This isn't football. You can't fairly judge basketball games the same way. Sure, there were plenty of mistakes today - stuff that needs to be addressed. Nothing wrong with saying that. But basketball has a different level of mental grind. Every game isn't a playoff in basketball. Sometimes you just got to get out of there and play the next game. All the top teams this year have lost games they shouldn't have. I guess they also had people questioning their coaches and whether they are being held accountable, but fact is sometimes we could just benefit from stepping back and looking at the big picture, which is as Since1892 pointed out:

year 1 - NIT, fizzled out
year 2 - NIT, championship game
    year 3 - NCAA bid, ??
