What happened to the Finebaum to ESPN radio

  • and leaving JOXX? The Zone had all the commercials saying that PF was leaving JOXX at the end of the year and hinting that he would be at The Zone.

    What happened?

    LuckyB

  • Crimson Duck

  • Not sure, but I suspect JOX simply coughed up the asked-for dough. No signs of departure at this juncture and so we will
just have to stay-tuned, as they say in the radio business.....

    JoeRio

  • Not even sure why he got a spot on Sirius. Most uninformed show I've ever listened to. I tune in to listen to shows that are 100 % sports. His is not.

    22musso

  • I think there is something going on in the courts. There was some type of legal action some months ago and my thought is that was either settled or there was some type of ruling.

He has the best lineup of guests on channel 91 and it isn't even close. He is one of the best interviewers out there.

He used to have really good insight into what is going on, now it's hard to tell if he is being serious or if he is trolling a fan base.

Having said that the caller based portion of his show is crap.

But at the end of the day he gets good ratings so to him the formula works.

His "insight" is always on off the field drama. Who will get fired, bashing coaches decisions, following situations like cam newton in 2010, etc. He has zero insight when it comes down to the game itself. Ask him a football related question and he mumbles some non-sense, says he will check on that and get back to you, and quickly moves to the next caller. He knows nothing about sports.

Agree. I'm a Bama fan but I live out of state and occasionally tune in on Sirius because I generally just keep my tuner on Channel 91 - the college sports station.

I can't, for the life of me, understand how anyone who isn't a Bama or Auburn fan would want to listen to his show on a routine basis. He cuts off callers, he never really provides any feedback or insight into what people say, and half the show is commercials.

He never breaks news anymore. His guests generally just blow smoke up his butt and speak in generalities. With the exception of his interviews with people like Dr. Kevin Elko, he rarely even provides any real insight into even Bama's program.

And the callers are 99% ignorant yokels who embarrass the state and the South in general.

    Wait...wut? Lolz.

Jack Arute's show blows PF away when it comes to guests, as does Bill King and even the evening show with Chris Childers and Chris Leak. They've switched over to more basketball programming now, but during the football season Finebaum's show was the biggest joke on Channel 91.

Sorry, but weekly discussions with Pat Dye and Kirk Herbstreit get old after about a month.

No it doesn't. I'd rather listen to pop music on channel 2 than listen Jackonsports.

So listening to essentially the same Pat Dye "interview" week after week after week is better?

Matter of fact, I don't want to talk about any of this anymore with you. But I would like to tell you about my friends at CraneWorks and Southeastern Pond Management....

haha pat dye. he is certainly entertaining but i agree he doesnt have much insight. he is just a fluffer for the barn.
    stallings interviews are pretty boring.

i should have been more specific when i said guests. i was refering to Herby, Feldman, Bachman etc. the national and regional guests is what i was referring to. i even like that guy from new york he gets on (cant remember his name). he seems to be able to get prominent national writers on more frequently than most of the other shows.

arrute is getting much better. i was hating on him pretty hard last year and now its much better. even his co hosts are getting better, especially as the season progressed.

    packer is good as well

bill kings show is probably my favorite. his knowledge and insight into recruiting and more specifically recruiting history is awesome. his hour segment with steele is appointment radio. but he is one of the worst interviewers on radio. he lobs softball questions and is afraid of making a guest mad.

dont get to listen to childers much. but i did like him when he was on with bill several years ago

I generally like everyone on 91 - I rarely even change the channel. And I'd probably like Finebaum more if he took fewer callers and tried to focus more on actual analysis and interviews. The callers really ruin the show and I get the feeling that part of the program really grates on PF, too, but he knows he's created a monster and the "personalities" are what drive his local ratings. The Tammies of the world.

I think Packer's show at 8a is fantastic. Eddie George and his other co-hosts are wonderful, with the exception of Tim Brown who has been insufferable the past 2 months with all the Notre Dame crap.

Bill King's more of a recruiting junkie but he has analysts from 24/7 and the other sites. He does a nice job, and has all the way back to when I listened to him out of Nashville on his local show.
