What these young men did was terrible

  • First of all, I'm not a troll, nor am I trying to shed anymore negativity on the situation that doesn't already exist. Without question, all 4 players deserve to be expelled from the program as well as UA. There are possibly other victims that were coerced by fear to not report the crimes. I hope these young men get their lives straightened out, but they have no place in this football program or university.

  • I agree with you, but what do you mean other victims coerced by fear to not report? What basis are you drawing these conclusions? Or is it just simple speculation? To say or bring this up your going to bring a firestorm on yourself without any substantial evidence or at least some kind of story to corroborate the question you are posing is not smart IMO. Like I said I agree with most of the post just not so much the question.

  • I get what you're saying, it just seems that based on the nature of these supposed attacks, it would not surprise me if there weren't other victims who were afraid to report. I never said there necessarily were separate events, I just wanted to emphasize how bad these criminal acts were.

    Murphman888

  • This stuff was pure thuggery. The mental desire to think up and carry out these acts shows that these people do not deserve a place in this program. It's truly sad.

  • Just by the numbers you are probably right. How many times do you get caught doing something wrong the first time that you do it? Sure it can happen, but chances are you don't get caught the first time.

  • Everyone should get a second chance and their second chance I hope will be something like no jail time and to play at a JUCO school and prove themselves.

We have all made mistakes, I know I have made too many to count, but never were any of my mistakes felonies. I hope they get their second chance, but I don't think they should get another bite at apple.

Yea well if you are talking about scimming the tip for the bus boy as a waiter then sure...

But if you are talking about assualt and robbery from three football players who then decided to use the stolen cards at the football dorm...yea I think their first time may in fact have been their last.

  • It's sad day all the way around today!!

We all thought our football program was above reproach, that ALL our players were the best student athletes, that our program had educational training activities that had the ability to impact even the worst individuals to be good human beings, that our recreuting methods were somehow better than others at selecting athletes of the highest moral character, and that those selected as a member of this football team were going on to be some our future great citizens of this country.

What we learned today is that, while everything that was mentioned above may be true, there just people in this society that can't be reached - - Yes, a sad day indeed.

  • Yes, I think all of us who preach conservative values should realize the students who were robbed and beaten are the victims, not these players. They need to be gone from the University just as any student should be who engages in these type crimes.

If you saw some of the current players tweets you'd think the players were the victims. That is what has got me baffled.

You call this a"mistake"? If it was you that got your ass whipped to a pulp and robbed by these animals, you wouldn't be talking this garbage. They need to be in prison. But because they play football you think they need a second chance at JUCO? If they had ruthlessly beaten your child, or your mother how would you feel then? Disgusting.

You should read my post correctly. I was saying this was a felony not just a mistake.

I don't if they have a criminal record. If they are first time offenders then jail time may not be the only option.

A mistake is writing 2012 instead of 2013 on your mortgage check....

Knocking someone out...repeatedly kicking them...stealing their laptop...using their ACT Card in the snack machine at the player's dorm afterwards...are acts of violence and thievery...and their sorry asses need to go to prison...

I said we all make mistakes, but this action by these young men were felonies NOT just mistakes.
If they are repeat offenders they should do jail time, if not, then other forms of punishment might be more appropriate and benefitical for them.

You've got to be kidding me. I know this will get me plenty of downvotes, but Cam Newton made a "mistake" by stealing some laptop out of a dorm room. This was outright thuggery, with no regard for the well being of another innocent person. The only balls these idiots should be concerned with are attached to their future cell mates.

I don't see how this is getting misunderstood. Pretty clear.

I think we're all just saying that if you commit a Class B felony (or potentially a Class A), you need to go to prison without any sort of a second chance.

This class of "mistake" is punished not so much as a punitive or correctional measure for the individual, as it is a deterrence to society. We punish petty theft and drug use lightly at the onset because we're concerned with fixing the criminal. But, people have to know that beating someone unconscious has serious consequences to protect potential victims. I can't justify believing that you should be able to beat someone with the potential of killing them and not face full consequences.
