There's only one great one IMO and we all know who that is.
Most coaches with a legit natty I would consider very good, I'll even throw in those that played for one so...Kelly, Meyer, Brown (questionable right now), Les, David Shaw, Petterson, Patterson. Good coaches...Hoke, Franklin, Richt, Spurrier, Bronco Mendenhall., Sumlin.
Edit...add Snyder in the good and Stoops in very good. I'm also not yet sold completely on Strong, Myschamp, and Fischer...not enough consistency and nothing great potential wise that I see out of a James Franklin type.

Saban may end up best ever. Then Meyer,Spurier, Kelley (Oregon but he just left). Chris Peterson. I want to put Miles in there but he's just too nuty. I also want to put Richt but you said great coaches. Too early for Sumlin or Strong. Who's the guy at TCU? That'd be my list.

At Florida, Meyer had equivalent takent . He did choose smaller, speedier skill position guys, but they were good. Stoops has similar talent on O, but D always takes a back seat in the Big 12. Synder on the other hand, does more with less than any other coach. I respect the hell out of him.

I think we are judging Stoops (and to a lesser degree Miles) too harshly because we are so close to the Saban machine. History will probably hold like them in pretty high regard. Bo Shembechler is considered an all time great although he never won a national title. Both BS & LM have won a national title, played for others, and had sustained success over a decent period of time. Both runs are comparable to runs by Spurrier and Lou Holtz and those guys are hall of famers.

I agree on Snyder. Kansas State is a tough place to recruit and he has done some great things during both of his coaching tenures. It will be interesting to see how he does without Collin Klein at QB though. Klein was a beast at QB.

Saban by far the best, Meyer would be second, spurrier third, stoops fourth, Miles fifth, Richt sixth, Snyder, Brown, Patterson, Petterson but questionable because he doesn't play the tough schedule each year, Kelly at Orgeon, Pete Caroll if he was still in college would be third because he had as good a recuiting area as Brown in texas, did not have to work as hard to get talent as Saban. It will really get interesting now with meyer at OSU and Kelly at ND which have a built in recuiting base.
