  • with only eight scholarship seniors the number crunching is already in play with 16 seats filled on the Saban Express for 13' .

    here is how the staffs big board likely looks imo :

    keep in mind there are several offers out to others that if taken should shake up the list.
    i also wouldnt be surprised if the staff held a slot for a NT unless they feel Paige is the man .

    thus making slots 20-23 shakey ground for those that dont RSVP .

    I would love to see us sign a true NT! They never have gaudy stats, or get a ton of credit, but a good NT commanding double teams is the centerpiece of a Saban 3-4 defense! Williams at NT could change the perception of the NT position as a run stuffer that draws double teams, he has the strength and athleticism to get after the QB, and take down RBs in the backfield. After Williams there is a significant drop unless someone emerges, wasn't wowed by ivory, but maybe he gets pushed and steps up.

    I'm with you on the numbers crunch! That's what I was trying to explain ones who think we are still going to sign 8-10 more! Saban is crunching numbers trying to get the '12 class situated, he is not going to sign more recruits than we have spots available, especially after the debacle we had last NSD! Saban is a genius as number crunching, I'm amazed at how he gets the numbers to work, but he knows the limits and isn't going to jeopardize the 85 scholly limit. JMO but I feel like we only 19 or 20, great crop in the 2013 class too. It will be very interesting to see the next 3 committs he takes, you know he will be saving 2 spots.

  • Langley, Walker Jones, Josh McNeil .. It would be a surprise to whiff on any of those three at this point.

    Nkimdeche is likely but I can't say he is a lock. He publicly favored LSU over ua this week.

    A couple of kids currently committed likely won't qualify plus 1-2 kids could flip off our list by choice so the numbers are tough to forecast.

    Right now I have Jones as a numbers casualty. I love this family and would love to take him, but we didn't offer Bobby Humphrey's kid so there is a precedent.

    Regarding Humphrey's kid: Were there character concerns? or were there kids just better to take? Honest question, I don't know.

  • He obviously ended up having issues at Arkansas but I don't remember any discussion of it when he was being recruited. I think we did recruit him, just didnt offer.

    Oh, I agree we are appealing, but that's not why I doubt he comes to BAMA. Tough pull imo. I do think we have a chance, just not a great one. However, anything can happen because our staff is that good.

    Jones can pay his way and scholly later like his brother. Humphrey just did not fit in that year. His little brother will, however.
