Wildest Football Finish of All Time

  • The West Alabama Football League ended its 11-12 championship game in bizzare fashion. The video is on youtube and is listed under Hale County vs Central. Someone that knows how to link the video, please do so.

You'll see jubilation quickly turn into dismay after a Central player intercepted the ball on the last play of the game. The player starts jumping up and down and heads to the sideline to celebrate, but never downs the ball or goes out of bounds. One of the Hale County players then goes over and asks for the ball, comes out of the celebrating crowd, and runs for the winning touchdown.

    It was wild!

  • I bet those kids were crushed. If I were the winning coach,I wouldn't even want to accept that win that way.

  • You've got to admit that it was the wildest finish you've seen in a while. One of the mom's threatened to mace the ref on the way out.

Both teams got over it quick and joined together to play in a tournament in Chattanooga during Thanksgiving. They won the championship together.

    rwgarner

  • Ha wow. I mean the kid has to know to down the ball but how do the coaches not tell him to get down? Complete fail by that entire team.

    HADOUKEN

  • I guess he never watched Arenas. He was the best at making big interceptions and getting on the ground.

Vince Lombardi was asked how it felt to have the best football team in the world. He replied, I don't know. We haven't played Alabama yet.

Please. Do you wish to forfeit a game because someone get called for pass interference on our WR and that set us up for the game winning FG? Didn't think so.

  • Did yall notice the coach get doused with the water cooler? Just goes to show that it is not over until its over.

  • In 2000 Jemison and Maplesville ended the same way. We were down 23-19 with 3 seconds. We threw a deep pass against max coverage and Maplesville intercepted the ball. Instead of going to the ground the defensive back threw the ball on the ground and Jemison picked it up as Maplesville was celebrating and scored to win 25-23. I still have a copy of the radio broadcast that was covering the game. They could not believe what happened. But the official was right there with me as I picked the ball up, never forget that game.

  • Where does the forward process rule come into play? If his process and momentum has stopped, does that not count?shrug

not if his forward progress was stopped by his own celebrating teammates. biggrin
that is a weird finish nonetheless.

This will go down as one of the all-time greats in the BOL Thesaurus.

i didn't notice that at first, but yes "forward process" is definitely going in the Thesaurus. lol.

  • Are you the coach of that Hale Co. team, rwgarner?

  • Most Bama fans don't realize that something similar could have happen to us on the "Rocky Block" play. After the block, and while most of our team was celebration mode, the ball was still live. Fortunately Julio finally went over and fell on it. Had he not done so, any Tennessee player could have scooped up the ball and scored.

  • that poor kid. Dumbest moment you could possibly have in football, but still feel bad for him even though I normally never ever feel bad for dumb acts like this. Since he's a kid and got confused in his own euphoria, I will always feel bad for him because they are gonna be talking about this for as long as he ever comes in the presence of any former teammate or opponent in that game...for the rest of his life. Thats gonna suck! So yea, I totally feel bad for that dude. Wow and damn. headslap

I see what you mean, but its incorrect. The rule states that a ball can't be returned or advanced by either team if the ball isnt going clearly backwards after the block. In other words, if the ball isnt clearly blocked and going in the opposite direction of the kick and/or clearly behind the LOS, it cannot be advanced by either team AND (for Kiffin's claim) after the ball has been kicked, the down is finished and anything that happens after that in relation to flags are dead ball fouls. Doesnt matter if it was 1st 2nd or 3rd down kicks. Once the holder gets the ball, the kicker isnt allowed to get a re-kick (if missed) if he tries to advance it on a bad snap. He's supposed to either fall on the bad snap or give the kicker the option to kick it with a hold and/or fall down if no actual kick was attempted. 4th downs are moot, obviously.
I prolly just confused the poo out of everyone, so apologize if I did. rtr

What I meant to say was...Im close to 100% positive that ball was NOT live. No return would've been allowed, by either team.

The new rule in college I believe is once the ball crosses the line of scrimmage it's a dead ball.

I believe that is correct sir. In the NFL, after a block FG that crosses the LOS, the play (not the ball) is still live untill the ball comes to a complete stop. But, if the kicking team touches ball AND the ball does indeed cross the LOS, the ball is now live. Leon Lett knows this all too well.

For those that want to approach/get physical with a youth ref in any sport, that is now a felony in the state of Alabama.

When the ball goes beyond the LOS, the kicking team cannot advance it. The kicking team (punt or FG) can pick it up and advance it if it is blocked and it does not go beyond the LOS. The only time the defense should attempt to recover is when there it is questionable whether it crossed the LOS or not.
