  • our defense trouble? We have had problems in the past with a true running QB. The young guys will have to stay at home and not over pursue. Thoughts? If we can stop the run, they have no chance.

I honestly think with guys like J. Williams, Nico, CJ, and Lester calling the shots, the running game will be toast for every team we face.

He may be thinking about last year when we lost three games. I think DR is going to feel the pain if he decides to run September 1st

we didnt lose becuse of running QB's. We lost because of blown coverages and deep passes. Cam didnt run at all against Alabama. He couldnt.

  • I thought Bama has had a lot of success stopping dual threat QB's over the past few year. Tebow, Tyrod Taylor, Jordan Jefferson, and Colt McCoy had little success. Even Cam Newton was held to 17 yards on the ground.

I didn't say anything about cam. We've had a lot of QB's run on us here lately if you've been paying attention, but clearly you haven't. Last year Florida's QB ran on us, Mississippi QB ran on us, and who would of thought Georgia SOuthern's would run on us and they did effortlessly many times

So in the last 3 seasons we have seen at least these 5 opportunities to view what dual threat QBs can do to a Saban defense (I did not include Colt McCoy because he played so little.
    QB, Rush yds-Pass yds-Rush TD-Pass TD
    2009 T Taylor, (-26)-91-0-0
    2009 Tebow, 63-247-0-1
    2010 Newton, 39-216-3-1
    2011 Jefferson(reg), 43-67-0-0
    2011 Jefferson(BCSNC), 15-53-0-0

Now what I see there. Only Fig Newton and Tebow ran a TD on us out of those 5 games. Newton had the best game, but like others have said, it came mostly on busted coverage. All I see everywhere else on the stat sheet is pure annihilation by our defense.

I don't think UM has 2 or 3 years to practice the triple option before they play us so I'm not worried about that.

Florida and Ole Miss had 15 and 28 yards rushing total, so I don't think their QB's exactly lit us up. A fast, athletic, disciplined D like ours is a nightmare for a guy like DR. He will make some plays but not enough. He's basically a faster more elusive Jefferson. Can't pass a lick. One dimensional QB vs. Saban and Smart with weeks/months to prepare? I like our chances.

  • nah..not on designed running plays, at least

if he scrambles out of the pocket maybe

Dude, he seriously said Florida's QB ran on Alabama..and Ole Miss' QB..We struggled against Florida and Ole Miss' dual threat QB's last year..If he believes that then there is really no hope for this thread

  • Randall Mackey rushed 12 times for 6 yards against Alabama. Im not going to even look at the UF stats because we knocked so many QB's out that night I dont know which one the OP is talking about

The guy is clueless. No QB has run on us. We have been the best in the country against running and running QBs to boot.

Driskell had 2 runs for first down when noone was open in garbage time. Apparently that means he ran all over us. Spice is a helluva drug.
