Would OU jump us...

  • SweetHomeNYC said...

Actually I think the top 5 will be (1) LSU (2) OSU (3) Alabama (4) OREGON (5) OU

That is what all the pundits are saying this morning.

  • Another scenario. Ou beats ok state and Georgia beats Lsu. Well now we have bama vs ou in NC game. Which was supposed to be the plan from the beginning. Too much football left to worry about it. Bama just needs to go out and control what they can control. That is what happens when you lose, you take away the control and leave all of us guessing. RTR

The voters will not look back that far. It's all about the here and now.

to your point this game will be 3 weeks in the rear view mirror by the time Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State.

No Arkansas will move up as well and be within five spots a well. I believe they are eight currently before yesterday's action. It is more convoluted than LSU's win over us being the ending factor.

Its the top 2 teams and then they have to be within 5 BCS to get the head-to-head. Not the top 3. So, it will all depend on whether Arky moves ahead of LSU. Beating them at home you would think but I can't guarantee they will.

Well nobody is giving me good reasons why we wont get jump so...
I guess OU is bound to jump us.
So our best bet is Arkansas beating LSU

Bama lost by 3 in OT to #1. They got spanked at home by an unranked that has went on to be routed in every game since. The voters have no justification to put OU ahead of Bama.

You do realize that a one loss LSU has the tie breaker advantage over us, right? We are not going to Atlanta unless LSU looses two conference games.

The fail is strong with this one

I'm so tired of this having to be explained to people. Have people been living under rocks since last Saturday. It has been covered by every major sports show and shown on pretty much every broadcast yesterday that included an SEC team. Not to mention that it is explained in about every other thread on this board. Sorry, its just the way people post with sarcasm saying "you know these things have to happen for us to go" when really they have no clue what the rules are. /rant

You want a good reason? Here it is: Texas Tech. They beat Oklahoma, then got blown out by Iowa State, and got absolutely manslaughtered today by Okie State. That loss looks horrible for them and there is no way they will jump us because of it.

this guy gets it....why is this so hard for some of you to recognize??

Just to be clear, I'm not saying OU will jump us TODAY. But, if they beat OSU, there is a chance............unless we find our offense and totally dominate these last two games.

The computers (and voters) love the Big 12 this year, and to say that they have no justification to put them ahead of us when they will have potentially just rolled into Stillwater and beaten the #2 team in the country without arguably their best player (Broyles) is just plain shortsighted.

Yes, Tx Tech beat them, but it was hardly a total blowout. OU was well on their way to coming back and winning the game. This also ignores the fact that PSU is likely to lose at least 1 if not both of their next two games, which, along with us playing powerhouse Ga Southern down the stretch, isn't going to help very much.

Plus, you have to consider the fact that there will be a lot of voters who will argue against LSU-Bama purely on the basis of the rematch argument.

Look--I hope I'm wrong, but, IMO, people are way too overconfident that we stay ahead of OU if we both win out.

  • Simple as this. We went to overtime with LSU. They were losing by double digits at home to Texas Tech. If OU wins we go.

If they beat #2Oklahoma State?? if Arkansas doesnt beat LSU then that means we wont be playing in a conference championship game. Tomorrow the top 4 teams will be in order LSU, Oklahoma state, Alabama, and OU. Beating the #2 team in the nation will look good to the voters and Alabama has G. Southern and Pitiful Auburn left w/ possibly no conference champ. game. Could somebody please explain to me how we wont get jumped?? Their loss to Texas tech dont mean nothing now that Boise loss.

IF they "jump" us then the BCS should be wadded up and thrown in the trash. OU lost to a team at home that got beat by 60 yesterday. They lost to a team with 5 losses and 5 wins. with 3 of those wins against horrible teams. TT has the 114th ranked scoring defense. We lost in OT to the #1 ranked team in the nation. IF OSU losses and we don't get the rematch then it is all just a joke.

Get the hell off your high horse, dude. We know the rules. Arkansas could well be the #6 team in the nation later tonight. If they beat LSU, they will probably jump LSU, which puts us in the SECCG. I'm really tired of having to explain this to people like YOU.

you are an idiot. Look at my post and who I quoted. The guy I quoted thinks that the only way we go to the SECC game is if LSU loses twice. Reading comprehension is hard.

  • OU's loss to Texas Tech is equal to that of USC's loss to Stanford a few years back before Stanford got good and when Harbaugh was a rookie coach. As bad as Tubberville's team is doing, noone will take OU seriously for losing to them at home. We just need Arkansas to play a damn good game against LSU because that Arkansas win, along with beating Penn State, is what we're holding onto.

    Bama9209

  • It's possible but I think OU's lose to Texas Tech by a large margin is much less forgivable than our loss to LSU by 3 in OT.

This exactly. Everyone is so hung up on who lost to who, but that likely won't be the deciding factor.

    In our favor:
    1. Our loss was better

    In their favor:
    1. Win in the final week on the road against the number 2 team in the nation. Without their best receiver - in a rivalry game - while Alabama doesn't even play.
    2. The computers love the Big 12.
    3. Many people do not want a rematch.
    4. Voters love OU (don't forget they were preseason #1).

It looks to me like they have way more in their favor than we do. Also, most of their advantages will be fresh in the minds of voters at the end of the year, while our "better loss" will be a month old, and their "worse loss" will be almost two months old. Many of you are way to confident that we'd get in.

No, it goes to the head to head if the teams are within 5 spots in the BCS. Lsu still gets in.

I've heard this said, but it doesn't make sense to me. All three teams would be within five spots of each other. We would have beaten Arkansas, LSU would have beaten us, and Arkansas would have beaten LSU. So how would that settle anything?

    ASBamaguy

  • It is between the top two teams that are within five spots of each other. If all 3 teams are within five spots of each other it makes no difference. The third rated team would be excluded from the argument and it would come down to the head to head between the top two.

Unfortunately I worry about the same thing. I'm not being negative or positive about it, I honestly just don't have a clue how it will happen and think it will be about a 50:50 chance that we go. It literally will be up to the mood of the voters and unfortunately that doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. I hope they take into account all of Oklahoma's BCS blunders and the fact that they found their way into the championship in 2003 and 2008 under very questionable circumstances.
