basketball team (offense)

  • They looked like night and day over the last 7 or so minutes of the game last night. Grant needs to say the hell with it and let them loose on the offensive end. Who cares if we have a few charges a night. I want to see them being in attack mode and getting a shot up with more than 15 seconds left on the shot clock. It takes more of the thinking out of the game, and it allows them to just get out there a play.

  • Grant is a "good" coach. The definition of that is simply they do what they know how to do well....what Grant knows is a half court offense, getting good shots no matter what, using an inside game to rebound the ball and control the pace of the other teams that like to push the ball.

But a "great" coach recruits to stop other teams with their own philosophy.

The "best" coaches can adapt their philosophy for a team to win against anyone.

See Coach Saban for example - He wants to run the ball, dominate with defense, stop the run and wear a team down. A smart offense that uses play action and the running game to develop drives, while also having the weapons to score fast. He has the players to do this and he recruits to do this...however with the spread type, fast paced offenses he is adapting and using more DBs like Geno instead of Vinnie at Star, he is recruiting towards pass rushers and better speed LBs.

Coach Grant has a good team, good shooters, and quickness at the PG. How does he use this? He sets in a half court relies on guys like Moose and Jacobs to rebound like his philosophy is? It aint going to happen...teams that can rebound and shot well will beat use almost every game. He uses defense to slow the pace, but what happens when your offense cant slow the pace and score? Last night is what happens, a boring offense that is playing from behind the entire game. Yet when we need to score we do...quick offense, still getting good shots, and hitting contested shots as well. Like i said ...Coach Grant is a good coach, but to become a great coach he needs to either recruit towards his philosophy or tweak it a little.
