since Auburn's national championship...

  • Here are some stats:

    Record 9-10
Outscored to 535 to 431 (28.16 to 22.68 per game)
Times scoring less than 20 points - 10
Times giving up for than 35 points to an opponent - 7
    Losses by 14 or more - 8
    Losses by 21 or more - 5
    Loses by 28 or more - 3

I know there are people who have been around a lot longer than me, so I wanted to ask. Has there every been a worse team in the history of football the next year and a half after winning a national championship?

  • Auburn scored higher than its average offensive production today, and yet the energy vampires ridicule those precious boys.

Someone looked into that statistic not too long ago. I believe Penn State and Ga Tech had the worst records two years after winning a college football national title. The Nittany Lions won it all in 1986, and fell to 5-6 in 1988. The Yellow Jackets won the UPI (Coaches) Poll in 1990, and also fell to 5-6 two years later. I cannot remember another team faring worse two years removed from a national title...until now. I suspect Auburn will claim this dubious record and control it with a vise like grip that will not be released in your lifetime.

Over the same time frame we scored less than 20 once, and less than 30 just 3 times.

GT started that year 4-1. they also loss some key players on their team. au will be the worse team removed from an NC when its all said and done.

First of all, I'm an associate pastor at my Church... and IMO your response is exactly why God should be left out of sports. I'm all for players praying before / after games, or taking a knee after a big play to thank God. But when CRAZY people like the Chizik's bring God into football like they have, along with some of their unbiblical and ridiculous ideas, it just gives people one more thing to mock about God.

For instance, in 2010 all we heard from Chizik is "It's a God thing" "Do what we Do" "It's a God thing" after a win, and now for the last two years people have ridiculed him wondering "Well where is God now??" "Is it still a 'God Thing'?"

Look, I love Jesus with everything that is in me, but Football and God don't mix. He cares about the people involved but certainly not with wins and losses.
