In the "Greased Lightning" scene of Grease, why does Danny run around the car trailing Saran Wrap behind him? It doesn't make sense. They're tricking out a car. Did they use cellophane in car detailing back in the 50s? I've known this movie my whole life and I just can't figure it out.

BTW, this question was directed primarily to women, as they are, in my experience, bigger fans of Grease than men, and older men, who might have a better understanding of detailing practices from the fifties. Your admonition does not apply here.
