Birmingham Rehearsal Dinner Ideas

  • Tried asking this in the Birmingham restaurants post but didn't get any responses. I'm looking to set up a rehearsal dinner in late June in the Birmingham area, preferably the south side of Birmingham as the rehearsal and ceremony and all will be in Helena. Anybody got any suggestions of the best venues, caterers, or restaurants that would be great for a rehearsal dinner. Looking to feed 40-45 people. Doesn't really matter the type of food too much but I'm not interested in BBQ. Looking to spend between $20-40 per person.

  • Actually have a hookup for sweet bones but had heard some not so favorable reviews of the food.

Ribs are so-so. Sauce isn't very good. I steer clear of their BBQ altogether. The ribeye is about the best mid-priced steak you can get. By "mid-priced" I mean as compared to Logan's, Outback, Longhorn, etc. Their seafood is always good too. Like I said, steer clear of the BBQ and I recommend it. Plus the staff is great.

  • Anybody try the Village Tavern or Veranda on Highlands? Those are my two favorite options so far for restaurants.

Also looking at having Kathy G. cater at the Gardens Cafe at the Botanical Gardens or the Gaslight House in Pelham.

I got married last November and my rehearsal dinner was at Cantina downtown on the south side. Really cool looking place on the inside and has a relaxed atmosphere. And great food. Everyone commented about how great the food was. You should at least check it out. We had close to 60-70 people at mine so it would for sure fit your party. Highly recommended!

I would certainly look into doing it at the gardens and if it isn't too much trouble, you should look into getting your wedding pics done there. There are so many different settings right there in one spot, you would be very happy with the result.

I eat at VT pretty regularly, but I don't see it as being a good fit for a rehearsal dinner. Just seems too uptight for that night. You probably want people to relax and that's not a place that will encourage that until everyone gets hammered.

I don't know anything about the Veranda but the other guy's post about Cantina is interesting.

A little late to this thread, but I had a great one some years ago at The Club. Overlooks the city, classic venue with great food and can handle large groups in a private room.

  • My daughter and her husband had their rehearsal dinner at the Veranda and it was very nice. (Of course this was 2002 - but I'm sure they are still very good). Options for the guests were steak, chicken or fish. Upstairs dining room with balcony. Very enjoyable.
