Alabama fans, I am entering my slow season at work and decided to do a little college athletics experiment. If each school could hand-pick their own independent "rival" schedule to play in all sports and have a collegial relationship in academic matters, who would Alabama choose? You would choose 9 schools that you would play annually in football, home-and-home in basketball, and whatever seems appropriate for all other sports. There are no conferences or political influences, so break away from the "common knowledge" thinking about the ways things always have been and always will be. Alabama has complete control over all revenue streams in partnership with their particular opponents, and bowls/national playoffs are on a performance basis, not conference affiliation or simply going undefeated or one loss. You still can play a handful of other programs on an individual sports basis to fill out a full season, but you are not in an all-sports agreement with them.
Based on the latest NCAA revenues report and cultural, geographically, and overall fit hunches, below is who I think you would choose to partner with. Please let me know if you agree or if there are changes that should be made. No one knows your culture better than you. I plan to do this exercise with all of the major program fan pages and eventually post all the results. Since Alabama is #4 in revenue behind UT, Ohio State, and Michigan, you basically get first picks. Remember, this is an overall partnership that will be include all facets of your athletic and academic partnerships; make them count.
3. Texas (Don't immediately dismiss. Think of the benefits.)
7. Texas A&M (I love the future on this one.)
8 and 9. ??? I need your help on these two. I would think South Carolina and/or Arkansas bring the most value, but do you highly value playing a Mississippi school? Do you want to branch out and try a Florida State or Oklahoma?
Thanks for your feedback.

Yeah, I like Va. Tech, too. I hope they find their way to the SEC next round of expansion. Also, you all would be good with FSU? I understand TV markets and all, but I really wish that FSU and Clemson were not getting stonewalled by UF, UGA, and USC for SEC inclusion. I don't care one way or the other about Ga. Tech, but the other two would be great cultural additions. Who is the girl in your photos footer? Wow.
i agree...great schools and teams but since there are other schools in our conference from the state they probably get cockblocked
Yeah, is what it is on FSU and Clemson. Va. Tech and an NC school will be great, though, next time around. That didn't look like Kate... guess I'm getting a new angle :)
