Alabama – A Shameful Schedule 2013
Alabama won the 2011 National Championship, is in the 2012 NC game against Notre Dame and has a good chance of being in the 2013 NC hunt as well. Why? Good coaching, sure. Great talent, absolutely. Both key ingredients that all teams need to possess to win a title. However the Crimson Tide has something else going for it, an obscenely easy schedule. This is not new to Alabama, playing cupcakes and carefully scheduling games to their advantage is an art form in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama does not like to leave the Confederacy. In 2013 they venture out one time, to play Kentucky, a civil war border state. This year they really went out on a limb and played Michigan, however that game was in Arlington Texas, a friendly Confederate State. Very nicely crafted indeed. In 2013 The Tide opens against Virginia Tech, however the game is at Atlanta Georgia. Bama did not even want to venture up North to Blackburg Virginia.
Here is the shameful schedule:
Notice that only 11 games are listed, Alabama needs to find one more cupcake to complete the 12 FBS NCAA game schedule. Pretty late in the hunt to find a team with an open date equaling The Tide’s. Rest assured the will pay some chump team to travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium to get mauled. This year it was Florida Atlantic (40-7), Western Kentucky (35-0) and Western Carolina (49-0).
Virginia Tech* (6-6)
@Texas A&M (10-2)
Ole Miss (6-6)
Georgia State (1-10)
@Mississippi State (8-4)
* @Atlanta Georgia
4 SEC teams away
1 game at a “close neutral site”
6 home games, 4 SEC and 2 embarrassing cupcakes.
1 obvious home game to be scheduled Sept 7, Sept 21or possibly but not likely (LSU the following week) Nov. 2.
The SEC West is kind of weak compared to the East, that sure doesn’t hurt Alabama’s chances either.
Crimson Tide Cupcake
Georgia State will move up in 2013 to the FBS Division 1-A, they had been in the FCS Division 1-AA CAA Conference. Chattanooga is a lowly FCS in the mighty Southern Conference.
No doubt if Notre Dame was not undefeated, Alabama would be ranked #1, even with this years schedule. So much for the myth of strenth of scedule.
too bad it wont look much better after plowing a vastly overrated nd team

the flavor of the week...its cute
we will resume our reign and take on all comers next year
Why are you trolling Das Coolah? This is an OT board. Get a free sub and post it on the RT or go to tBB. Not sure what you plan to accomplish besides looking like a tard.
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
So.you guys don't see anything wrong with your scheduling from year to year?
Gringo Mafia Sergeant at Arms - 5 time POTW
no...we almost always win the natty title so it must be helping us out
It could be worse, we could have just signed an agreement to play games with the ACC.
You dont see anything wrong with being scared to join a conference?
We'd lose money if we were to join a conference by having to share it with atleast a dozen other teams.
How can't you grasp that concept? What don't you understand about that?
Plus we had a tougher schedule than the majority of teams in the country (including Alabama) without being in a conference.
You're going to need to make a point soon or I'm just going to have to start ignoring your uneducated useless posts.
if you have mad skills like bama you still go to the bcs every year. nd knows nothing of that though so i apologize for the confusion
oh but please tell me again why we should join a conference...
moot point in your case
Ok I'll bite. Alabama played one FCS team, so I'll exclude the one FCS team, and add UGA so we both have 12 games. Consider that our benefit for playing in a conference and having to play a conference championship game.
Overall record of teams played: UA= 80-64 ND-82-62.
Games against ranked teams (final BCS): UA=4, ND=2
Top 10 teams played (final BCS); UA=3, ND=2.
Teams played with 10+ wins: UA=3, ND=2
Teams played with 8+ wins: UA=5, ND=4.
Bowl Eligible teams: UA=7, ND=11.
Alabama was hurt by having 2 teams missing the bowl cut-off by 1 game. They were also hurt by coaching turmoil at Arky, who was #3 in the BCS at one point last year and could have easily been 10-15 range this year, and auburn who absolutely crapped the bed. It is a down year in the bottom half of the SEC.

For what? admitting that the bottom half of the SEC kinda sucks ass this year? The SEC "could" have had 11 bowl eligible teams, but just couldn't pull it off. UT, Arky, and auburn all had coaching issues and have fired their coaches. Mizzou sucked this year and I think their OC may be resigning or has resigned. I wasn't impressed with the coat tail riders at all.
We've been down this road with you before in an earlier thread. Is your's a case of memory loss, or are you just compulsive? Let's just set the record straight.
Last time I checked, I believe the SEC has won the National Championship for almost a decade now. Until your fighting irish play in this conference year in and year out, you don't have a clue, and your argument about a weak schedule is nonsense. End of discussion.
Aside from this year, please tell me the last time ND was relevant? When was that?
Tell you what. I have great respect for ND. I've watched or listened to every game played between us. You bring your best athletes, we'll bring ours. Let's play the game. I'm inviting you now to come back to this board. If we lose, I'll congratulate you and respect your team. Will you do the same? At Alabama we play and win with class and tradition. I would expect nothing less from a ND fan. Please don't prove me wrong!

That's ok apology accepted.
With our powers combined no other 2 teams in the country could match our body of work.
How can you whine about strength of schedule when Alabama is #3 in the country and ND is #24? haha
We scheduled the #1 toughest schedule in 2012.
Look it up. It's easy to say AFTER the season how tough your schedule was. Atleast we're not afraid to schedule.
Not our fault the idiots we play can't win. Maybe we should do like Bama and start scheduling Division 2 schools?
Pretty sure that's your job. Unless you prove it I'm calling BS. As far as the second point, that explains why you're undefeated for now.

It's quite simple actually, Bama knows how hard it is just with a regular SEC schedule so in the end (when it matters) the SOS will always be at or near the top for the toughest. My suggestion would be to schedule some SEC teams and therefore you won't have to worry about the idiots you play not winning. rtr
FWIW, I do recall Brian Kelly saying that he will try and schedule SEC teams in the near future. I believe it was his right after he was hired when he said that. He said something about "to be the best, you have to beat the best." Right now the SEC has most of the better teams. Make no mistake, ND will not lay down for you guys. You will get our best. I hope we get yours. I want no excuses.
For those commenting on how long ND has been 'irrelevant', don't forget about the struggles you guys had from 1980-2008. 1 NC in 29 years. All programs go through rough patches. Hard to believe that it could go for so long with programs like ND and Alabama
Good luck 1/7/13. Go Irish Tide rolled
3 time POTW
...and then ND goes out and reaches an agreement to play games against the ACC.
