My wife is pregnant with our 3rd and last child. Have any of you ever waited to find out the gender upon arrival? Was it too suspenseful? We are within a few weeks of finding out and we're thinking about waiting until its born. Stories or advice? Mods, I believe you all have children right?
Follow me on twitter, @BSCTIDE. Let's tweet.
I had my first 10 months ago and wanted to find out right away seeing as to how we had to buy clothes stroller and things of that nature and didn't want to have to buy it all at once right after he was born. Being your third its probably different because you probably have things you need anyway
Man just remember if you have health insurance it covers the doc cutting the umbilical cord. They asked me if I wanted to cut the cord and I was like "What? THAT'S not covered?" You gotta be kidding me, but turns out they'll do it if you just say there's no way you're gonna do it, you guys.
Wish I had kids, but I've known the gender of both puppies before I adopted them.
FWIW, if my wife ever lets me have one, she won't let us find out until it's here.
Our first baby died from a cord accident before she was born. We didn't find out the sex until my wife delivered her. We knew the sex of our other two children before they were born. I loved getting the opportunity to cut the cord! I highly recommend any father do that.
I have two boys, I knew ahead of time on both. If you have waited this long, a few weeks is nothing. It won't take long to buy the essentials for either. Congrats!!!

4 kids; all daughters; waited for delivery to know gender on all of them; would do it the same way again if I had the chance. There's just something about the anticipation and the guessing, etc. that adds to the excitement. At least it did for us.
First one coming in about 6 weeks. I can't imagine not knowing. The suspense is killing me enough as it is.
We have two kids. Girl 6, and boy 4. I didnt want to find out, but wife did, so she won that battle on nora. It was ok, and she is love of my life. On the 2nd (and last) I talked wife into riding it out for a surprise. Now, I knew the 2nd baby is the end of the road for us, so I REALLY wanted a boy. The excitement and anticipation was a freaking blast. If we had more kids, wife and I both agree we would not even consider finding out in advance. Our experience of 'waiting' was a lot of fun. We got to laugh, guess, and anticipate for 9 months. (Even tho we all know its really 10 months)
Note-it isn't for me, but had a cousin who had a baby and her and her husband found out-but they kept a secret from everyone else-so that's another idea.....but as I said, not really my thing tho.
Whatever you choose tho-it's doesn't really matter-bc you are about to experience the coolest thing in the world. Obv the birth is awesome, but as they grow up-just watching them learn and grow is such a cool experience. From ages 18 months to 4, I swear if you listen carefully you can actually hear their brains growing. Enjoy and ya'll are in my prayers.
Have 3 myself... Found out ASAP with all... Our theory was... It'll be a suprise either way... We'll just get it sooner rather than later
Exactly...same surprise, you choose the day.
Let me tell you how you fix that "if my wife ever lets me have children" issue. Tell your wife up front you aren't going anywhere and that you love her. But, you want some kids. Then, inform here there are PLENTY of women out there that aren't married but want kids. You're going to find some and have you some kids. Then tell her you will be gone at times to help with the kids and you will be bringing them to the house also.
She will change her mind and give you kids (vbg)!
I have 2 boys...waited until arrival on both...sorta the old fashion way.
Just had twins Wednesday morning. Two boys. We wanted to wait but didn't want to have to pick out four names. Also like an above poster said we wanted to be able to buy things that were gender specific.
2 boys and we waited for both. I remember how excited I was when they was born screaming its a boy its a boy. I think its like knowing what you are getting for Christmas beforehand takes some of the fun away.
It is just as exciting to find out before they were born as it is to find out when they are born. Makes more sense to find out so you can buy clothes, paint the room, stuff like that. It really just depends on what you want to do since it is your child. Congrats, I have 3 as well.
Regardless of what you do, you can't go wrong. I just would like to say congrats and wish your wife and little one good health.
