Looking for a good grill for under $500.
Gas or Charcoal
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
The cheapest way is to just put foil over your teeth.(VBG)
Let's say gas
wish I had just kept my braces back in the day for this method
Weber makes really good gas grills but they really start at 500. The Char-broil brand at lowes work pretty good and you can get a really nice one for 500. How often are you planning to use it and how much do you plan to cook at one time?

you can thank me later
WARNING--This is the ONLY official Holland website. We DO NOT operate a Holland Grill Outlet or any other website. Find out where you can buy the amazing Holland Grill at a retailer near you.
It's not under $500, but I highly recommend the Big Green Egg. Last grill you will ever buy, want, or need.
It's the Nick F'ing Saban of grills.
Well, it's just me and the old lady, but we do like having people over. Especially during football season
Green Egg. End of thread
Those are badass. The price tag is too.
Weber kettle. Less than 100 bucks and I've grilled and smoked everything on it
If you are serious about grilling the Holland grills UAbasspro posted are awesome but the price tag refelcts it. Green Egg, best there is but cost a fortune. There are grills at lowes for 200-300 that are perfect for just pulling out on a Saturday and cooking a little. If you want a top flight grill that lasts a long time, and cooks great, then you need to double your budget.
Here is an option that sounds like what you are after:
Find Char-Broil 4-Burner Gas Grill at Lowes.com. Lowes offers a variety of quality home improvement products that are available for purchase online or in store.
They're great but he wants to stay under 500. Not everybody wants or needs a grill with a comma in the price.
For the grilling most people do a BGE is overkill IMO.
I have a large green egg. It was a gift and is as awesome as all say. That being said, I kept my little Weber Spirit 2 burner gas grill. It was about 400 bucks and stunned me at how good it is. It will hit almost 700 degrees, which means great steak searing. In fact, I now sear them on it, and put them on the egg to finish. I've had every kind of outdoor cooking contraption, and can tell you that anything Weber should last a good, long time. I also recommend cast iron cooking grates.

I have a traeger wood pellet grill and love it. But they are more than $500.
Nothing against the Egg, have friends that have them and have had some really good food from them. However, if you are good at grilling, you can do anything you want fantastically with a Weber. Have had many people choose my smoked shoulders from the Weber over those cooked on an Egg. You do have to attend to a Weber a little more, add charcoal, etc., so the Egg is better if you want to cook longer without needing to attend to the grill.
I guess I am a snob, but I do not like gas and still use charcoal. Can save a lot of money with a charcoal Weber on the front end, and still prepare great food.
My last couple have had cast iron bu they are a bit of a pain to maintain. Has anyone tried the porcelain coated cast iron?
I am interested in hearing more about the Holland. Anybody else have one? What do you like/not like? And who carries them in Alabama and average cost? Time to replace my gas grill. Like the original poster, I would prefer not to break the bank but need a good grill for family of three and company. Thanks in advance.
I used to be the same way but have found uses for both. I will always keep a gas grill because they are perfect for those days when I get home from work and want to throw something on real quick.
