I'm old school, it's Church's by a mile. Meatiest wings in the USA. You'll like their wings or they'll give you the bird. (I think that's actually from Pluckers in Texas.)
Church's cuts their birds a bit differently, so if you like breasts (and who doesn't, especially during Save the TaTas month), order their wings. It has more breast meat than their breasts do. Seriously...don't have a clue about their coffee, after breakfast, I'm done with the stuff.
1st downvote Charles!!
Church's and it's not even close for me. I've never gotten into the cajun chicken craze. However, Mrs. Winners blew them both out of the water. Haven't seen one in a long time though.

Popeye's, lived on that stuff when I lived in the Big Easy.
IF IT FEELS GOOD,YOU AIN'T DOING IT RIGHT!
Stopped by the Church's in Alberta City for some tailgate bird before a game. Was trying to be cute and said to the lady behind the counter "I heard you've got the best burgers in town." She never missed a beat, "If we made'em."
For that response alone, Church's.
Always looking for new chicken spots. Where I it?
Popeyes and its not close...

Everything else, Popeye's.
It is one of a kind though they have had a couple of locations around Birmingham over the years. The one in Center Point was a local landmark. My first job as a kid was at the old location in Trussville by the YMCA. They let me work as a waiter when i was 14 years old. It is run by a great family that have been in the business for years.
Also, to a previous poster, the reason it takes so long is that they do everything (breading, frying, seasoning) after you order. So it goes straight from the grease to the plate to you.
I'd recommend anyone in the Birmingham area give it a try.
