Daughter has a blueray connected to a 32" Samsung LCD. Sound is just built in TV, awful. Anybody have inexpensive recommendation to enhance sound in a small room? Can you just buy speakers or do you need a separate receiver? Thanks in advance for helpful answers from any gurus on here!
I bought a cheap base speaker with 2 side speakers from Fred's 3 years ago for our bedroom. The base speaker is also a receiver . It is a "REGENT" brand . Very cheap, but will blow you out of a small room. I have it in one of my daughter's bedrooms.
Get a soundbar.
Best Buy Sound Bars
Using a Bose SoundDock in a similar situation. Sounds great and won't set you back too much.
I have a Boston Acoustic sound bar and I love it. The wireless sub makes it easy to hide. Sounds great and affordable.

Sound bar for smaller applications. Go full out with preamp and decent A/V receiver capable of decoding DTS and Dolby HD audio with 7.1 output if you're wanting full effect. It makes watching games at home incredible.
And use HDMI at all times.
Just got this one for my 47 inch LG. Luckily when it was only $149.99 when I bought it but its really good for the price. Has good bass with the wireless subwoofer.
Either this website doesn't exist or is not currently available.
Just got a Vizio soundbar for about $100. Works great. Just plugs straight in to the TV.
Samsung makes a very good sound bar with wireless sub
I work at Best Buy, trust me the rest of the guys on the board are correct when they say you need a soundbar.
Better than an inexpensive receiver and speakers then. Is that the consensus for $300 or less?

Not better but easier to mess with/install imo...
This is the one I got, looks like the price at WallyWorld is pretty good too.
Shop for the Vizio Sound Bars 32 at an always low price from Walmart.com. Save money. Live better.
We just got a new Samsung TV, and found the same problem with the sound. We bought a Yamaha YAS-101BL, and have been very pleased. Best Buy typically has them in stock, or you can get it on Amazon.

If you care about quality, don't buy Vizio. They are second rate at practically every device they put out, and only sell well because they put them out cheap. Stick with a premium brand. Sony's sound bar CT260 will get you the high end quality without going over your budget. In blind tests its sound is preferred over Samsung's as well. Wireless sub and Bluetooth connectivity to listen to music on your phone. Just saying.
Oh, and, the Best Buy in Hoover has an open box one (last I checked) you could probably get for around $215ish. Most other Best Buys sold out over the holidays and haven't been able to get restocked as it has been too popular.
What I tell you is true. Do yourself a favor and take the advice. ;)
True. Unless you're a complete glutton for punishment and enjoy doing such things.
Now I'm going to have to buy several others and conduct my own blind test just to see if my Vizio really sucks. :)
I like your direction but the wireless base is a must. If you ever hear the sound with and without it's just worth the extra money.
I got the Samsung at Best Buy and love it.... The Vizio is good to.
Folks asking about pics so 1. Near Skagway AK 2. Ketchikan AK 3. Space Needle in Seattle. This summer was a great trip.
Good sound cheap price. Bose Companion 2 series II computer speakers. $110. Cheaper on e- bay. If they are not what you want you still got great sounding speakers for computer.
