Thought I'd share some good news with you all ... my wife and I decided to to tackle the Daniel Fast, which is a Christian spiritually-based fast designed to help followers move closer to God through prayer and sacrifice. Weight loss is an obvious side effect (hopefully, maybe).
Anyway, on the fast you can't consume anything that's not natural/organic - just things that come from the earth a la the Paleo diet, but without meat. You may only consume fruits, veggies and nuts, and only water to drink - all for 21 days.
Well, today, after just 15 days on the fast and my annual physical/check-up, my BP is at an all-time low and I'm down 13 lbs. Plus, it has created more opportunity for prayer - bc there have been some challenging moments, let me tell you.
Good for you OP in more ways than one..Our church is also about to start the Daniel fast

Good job OP. Just finished last week. Our church does it every year and it is life changing every year.
That's wonderful...closer to God is the most important, but losing weight/great BP is right up there!!! Congrats!!
I think i'll stick with my bbq 3 times a week and a bag of golden flake tobasco pork rinds before bedtime. The only thing green I eat is the guacamole on my greasy beef enchilada. g
Seriously, I admire your dedication and congrats on your fast.
I am about to start this... I'm very anxious about the changes I might experience, but anxious in a good way.
Appreciate all the support. For me, the food was not nearly the challenge as giving up Cokes was. But, once you figure out what you can eat and ways to create variety, you can do it.
Haven't cheated and won't - 5 days to go. My wife & I have decided to stay w it when it's over during weekdays. We truly think & believe that we've experienced a lifestyle change. God is indeed good!
"weed is from the earth...God made this for you and for me." -Smokey on "Friday"
I kid, I kid....congrats and good luck.
Sports message board. Sports message board. I'm glad you're skinny-ing up and all, but this is a SPORTS message board. That is all.
Biggest Bama fan in Australia
We do the same thing at my church.
92 I do the juice diet regularly. I make a big batch of mean green vegetable juice daily and chomp on a few handfuls of nuts throughout the day. Lost 25lbs my first 5 weeks. I'm gonna lose 25 more and start slowly working solids back in but will always juice a few days a week to help maintain. It's been life hanging here as well.
Congrats on your new journey!

"Nobody makes me bleed my own blood, nobody!"
Great for you 92DT! I would have the same problem with the cokes. Too embarassed to say how much I drink a day!
It's funny... I don't disagree with you but as soon as I saw your screen name while scrolling I knew you'd have an issue with it.
This. There have been several threads on here the last few weeks on fitness/nutrition and he didnt say a word about it. He doesn't have a problem with a non-sports thread on a sports message board, he has a problem with the person being a Christian and fasting for religious reasons.
Is Vegemite of the earth? Keep up the good work OP
Thanks for sharing and God bless
I have read his post several times and I have yet to read where Aussie said that in his post. If you interpret his post to mean what you said or have a preconceived notion of what he meant based upon past posts, that is fine-just don't state it as fact. It's unfair. I wouldn't have mentioned this at all if you had written, "I believe that he has a problem with the person being a Christian and fasting for religious reasons." It would be unfair if I made assumptions about you based upon what I wanted your post to say instead of what it actually said. And to the OP-good for you-I'm impressed when anyone can find some peace in this world.
Couldn't be more than me, Mark. I live 3 mi from work and, before this, I couldn't make it to work or back home without stopping for a 32 oz coke at the QT. Total addict. Hell, I'm the reason McDonald's posts signs that don't allow free refills unless you're a current customer. The first few days of no caffeine on this fast was the closest I'll come to being a heroin addict in detox.
And guys - this was not a thread started for the purpose of spreading faith. But, in fact, it is Christian-based. We see threads on here frequently - some started by a mod - that deal with health and nutrition. Have a great day, BamaAussie.
Congrats. If you would like to know more about the science behind why this works and more about what benefits you are actually making to your body, especially in the realm of heart disease prevention and cancer prevention, then I suggest two books. The China Study by Campbell is the collected research about plant based nutrition and its impact on humans. Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Esselstyn is also another great book, especially for those of us who have heart disease in the family and want to avoid the nastiness our parents and grandparents went through. The documentary Forks Over Knives is also a good overview of this information should you not be prone to read. Regardless of how you come at this information, it is a great thing to commit to for your health.

I believe in fasting, but the entire organic movement is garbage. Some "natural" pesticides are more harmful than synthetic ones, and organic is actually worse for the environment, because it takes much more land to produce just a fraction of the same product.
You going for 21 days?
Myths about organic foods busted.
Fast for God, but don't believe liberals about organic foods.
Aussie is right. I started a thread yesterday or the day before about women being cleared for combat and it was zapped in 13 minutes. Like the OP's post, it's a subject near and dear to my heart and I wanted to celebrate with my fellow Tide fans. I'd argue it's much more relevant and ripe for reasoned debate than this "look at me" post. Don't get me wrong, it's great that the OP accomplished this and he should be lauded. But the inconsistency with which the mods allow some threads to stay on the RT while moving others is baffling. Would appreciate an explanation so next time my thread doesn't get zapped before it has 4 replies.
Yep, got 5 to go. But, again, we'll probably stay with the diet part of the plan during the weekdays. Then relax more during the weekends.
