I remember back in the day getting a whipping from my dad, and since I was so smart, threatening to call the child abuse hotline on my dad. Not only did he support the idea, he looked up the number and gave it to me. He said, "Be sure before you call, because if they're coming anyway I'm gonna get my money's worth."
Strangely enough, I've never been in prison, or shot anyone, or even become a POS thief. Coincidence? I don't think so.
We need more dads like mine.
Roll Tide all across the USA!!!!
Time to put God back in schools too.
I move to delete this thread.
Biggest Bama fan in Australia
I remember threatening my mom with that once, she picked up the phone dialed a number and said "Hello? Yes this is Mrs. Blizzard, I live at so and so, would you like to come and watch me whip my child for being bad? Ok thank you" She hung up and said "They said they didn't care" Obviously she didn't really call, but when I was 7 I sure thought she did. Btw my dad was a truck driver so he wasn't home when this happened.
Do I hear a second?...anyone, anyone?
Take to the watercooler!!!
If you want to walk the heavenly streets of gold, you gotta know the password, "Roll, tide, roll!"
Hey if no one else wants this crap to be deleted or moved to the WC, then I suppose I can't complain. But I can argue.
So yeah, about putting "god" back in schools: While atheists makes up almost 20% of the population of the US, less than 1% of prisoners are atheist. Apparently having some sky wizard telling you what to do doesn't make you any better of a person, or any less of a criminal.
Additionally, if guns aren't the problem, how come countries that outlaw guns aren't on the news constantly for mass murders with semi automatic weapons? Last I checked, in Australia it's been almost 20 years since we had some depraved person spraying our kids with bullets. I mean, keep your guns, I guess. But don't lie to yourself - with semi automatic weapons legal, Columbine and Connecticut (and many others) are what you get.
If one of the mods had posted this you wouldn't be in here saying this so stfu.
You really believe the columbine kids bought all those weapons legally?
Anyone who believes 300M+ firearms in this country doesn't significantly contribute to the prevalence of gun crime in this country is just fooling themselves.
Can semi automatic weapons be purchased legally within the US?
It's both. There are trends in our society that are adding to the problems but the unparalleled access to guns is also part of the problem. It's a sad commentary on where we are when the gangs of Mexico and Central America get their weapons in the US.
How about in addition to putting God back in the schools, we put him in the pawn shops and gun shows. Maybe then he could prevent the wrong people from buying assault weapons?

what do u mean? Like putting up the 10 commandments? Yea that wouldnt be uncomfortable for all the non christian students.....plus we already have a moment of silence in schools were kids can prey to who they choose
Roll Tide to Her
This should be fun

I thought we were in the desperate minority on BOL. Good to know there are some other free thinkers on this board.
Well the point of the OP was the "spare the rod" arguement. But I guess I should have seen the backlash coming.
Guns have been around for a long time. It's the people who have changed. That was my point.
I second the motion
Thanks Bama T Bone I agree
Free thinker? Most people I know describe me as liberal. But I don't agree taking away access to a gun will change things. It's the fact that kids are given time outs, and suspension instead of the belt and paddle. Maybe that's closed minded, but I promise you the culture is what's different. True or false, the things kids get away with today wouldn't have flown when you were a kid and especially wouldn't flown in your grandparents household?
You're really missing the point. It's a societal problem and this melting pot nation is on a rapid moral decline - one which will only continue as long as we shun the religious-based foundation on which it was built. I'm no Bible beater but it just seems so painfully obvious. There's really no good reason at all for assault rifles to be privately owned but these guns aren't killing people. To blame them is misguided.
And btw, I don't know where you came up with that atheism prison statistic but it's not based in reality.

Ok, how about a little sanity?
Atheists can be very good people, and God certainly won't force you to be a good person.
Knowing God simply helps you understand your sinfulness. And, given the choice I think following Christ leads to more loving and giving, less hating and taking.
Guns in themselves don't kill people, but I don't think we really need semiautomatic rifles in our homes. Also, alcohol related incidents kill more people every year than guns.
It's total hypocrisy to think we should ban all guns but glorify alcohol. Maybe our obsession with violence on tv, Internet, movies might deserve some thought.
The home is certainly a key to solving some of siciety's ills. Dads in the home who take responsibility for children would be a good first step. But, there are people out there with mental illness who can't be helped by fixing the home.
There are no easy answers.
Let's just pray for the families of those children killed and do our best to be the parents God has called us to be.
I'm sorry Bama aussie but these crimes did not occur as a result of the 2nd amendment right. I am a liscensed concealed carrier and it absoloutely baffles me how so many people live their lives without any way of defending themselves against violent criminals with all that goes on. Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country as well as the most backwards self defense laws known to man. Would you like to guess where it ranks in violent crime? And I don't mean heat of the moment shooting I'm talking gangs fighting and shooting randomly in the street and it's common. Virtually none of them posess legal weapons. Watch WGN every night and once every 2 weeks you will hear fully automatic gunfire (which is illegal to civilians) while the report on the latest outbreak. So tell me Aussie...Why can't Chicagos rediculous and unconstitutional IMO gun and defense law put an end to violent crime in their streets? Because the criminals don't fear armed law-abiding citizens because there are none!Random shooting by derranged indiviuals is a mental health awarenes and policy problem and no gun control law will stop someone who is determined to kill defenseless people from doing so. That is just the plain flat out truth. Just like evrything else liberals do gun legislation discourages people from being smart and arming themselves and educating themselvesabout self defense and turn people into mediocre ,closed minded, gullible, emotional and defenseless sheep.
So where's the sanity? All I see is bible drivel.
EDIT: Sorry, there is actually some substance in your post. Minus the god drivel =)
