About time, IMO. Women have been downrange the entire war. There's no reason we can't serve in SOCOM units also. Thanks, Leon!!!
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta will lift a ban on women serving in combat, the Associated Press reports Wednesday. Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military’s ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war. The move overturns a…
Bad move IMO. When females are captured it will be used against us tenfold compared to when males are captured.
Shouldn't be considered any different for women to be captured than when men are, guy.
A life is a life.
I'm not a fan of this, but this thread could get interesting.
God forbid it happen, but if a captured woman gets raped, you will see what I'm talking about
It's about time we followed the Israeli's lead in this. We women have fought valiantly and effectively for millennia. For the self-proclaimed beacon of freedom, the US has been mighty slow in embracing equality.
Good one less thing for women to complain about
If a person can pass all necessary physical/mental requirements to make it into a given military unit, then that person's gender should not matter.
Bad idea on so many levels, but unfortunately not surprising.
And I say that as an active-duty service member.
Didn't take long for this to get flushed to the cooler. The OP should have mentioned the Atlanta Braves so it could stay on the RT.
WOMERNS AIN'T AS GOOD AS MEN AT NUTTIN. SPECIALLY KILLIN. (g)
Never Gets Old
I agree it's a bad move
Spoken like someone who has no idea what they're talking about. Tell me sir, do you have prior military experience, specifically in the combat arms?
Women do not belong on the front lines, period.
Most soldiers are 18-24 years old and the last thing they need are women with them on the battefield. You will have male soldiers putting themselves in harm's way to protect female soldiers more than they would other male soldiers. You have the mental aspect of what seeing women soldiers die will do to the male soldiers. And don't even get me started on the physical limitations of female soldiers, that really isn't debatable. I could go on and on..
Hopefully the high brass in the military that has some common sense will make PT test requirements so stringent that 99% of women can't pass them to serve the front lines.

On which front line did you serve, sir? Women have been on the front line the entire Iraq and Afghan wars. Seems to be working pretty well so far.
In this instance, they will be. USMC is raising the physical standards for women, incorporating pullups into their PFT's. I'd expect the rest of the military to follow suit. Boom.
You say "women aren't held to the same standards as men" to which I give an example of how they are or soon will be. You respond sarcastically and without substance. Guess that means I win. Double-boom.
Just found this gem on TBB. No offense intended.
"Probably pair a guy with a girl and call the pair life taker and the sammich maker"
You better tell the IDF then, apparently they're accomplishing a "scientific impossibility".
Methinks you don't know what "scientific impossibility" means. Not surprising.
You can't really be that nieve to ever think women will be held to the same standard as men. It is not in the human DNA for this to happen.
You know, I normally don't care about misspellings and grammar because they're usually just simple mistakes. But, you spelling naive "nieve" might be the most retarded thing I've ever seen.
And yes they can be held to the same standards. If only 1% of women pass the requirements, than that 1% should be allowed to fight.
I'm guessing you're not a fan of integration or gays openly serving, either.
If a woman CAN lift as much, carry as much, run as fast, and be overall as powerful as a man, why shouldn't she be allowed to be in the infantry? And I've served alongside plenty of weak dudes who could barely rack a Mk 19, yet they could serve in the infantry.
Not a fan of gays period. Ship them to California and put razor wire around the state IMO
