Football Food

  • I have a kitchen because it came with the house, but I'm in the mood to cook some classic 'football food' tomorrow. Please share your favorites, and include recipe if possible.

  • One of my faves is chilli. Not a cook and don't have recipe, but not too spicy please. :)

I'm a lightweight on spicy myself. Chili with cheese, Fritos, and sour cream :)

  • Sausage balls, small and well done are pretty awesome too if you want to cook. :) Pigs in a blanket work.

How did your cookout go? Anyone welling to try is pretty awesome to me. Hope all loved what you served and you enjoyed the game. I shared your post with my wife, (she loves football Saturdays) and she made some of her best chili ever. She does several things but that was the hit this time. ( my opinion mind you ) The shrimp idea on here was a very good idea. Anyway, hope you had fun, and hats off !! Roll Tide and how 'bout those Clemson Tigers. :))

  • Scarlett, have you ever made taco soup? It's souper (g) easy and really good...all those toppings you like on chili are great with this recipe.

There are recipes all over the internet, or I'll PM you mine if you want it.

BTW, if you can follow a recipe, you're a good cook!

Ha, thanks but I think it just means I can read. Taco soup? Not exactly, but I've made chicken tortilla. Guessing it's similar. Feel free to PM, appreciate it.

Hey, Halle. Thanks & RTR. I did the shrimp & grits casserole with French bread & salad. Nothing fancy. Will PM you the recipe.

  • Tell me what y'all think about this. My mama made it one football Saturday years ago, and I've been thinking of trying it.

Mix up cornbread batter. Pour half in large cast iron skillet. Cook until half done. While doing that, brown about 1/4 lb. hamburger meat. Pour browned hamburger meat over half cooked cornbread. Cover with a layer of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, then a layer of sliced jalapenos. Finally, pour second half of cornbread batter on top and bake until the cornbread is done. To serve, just slice in pie sections.

  • That sounds delicous.

Jalapeno cornbread with pecan butter spread is my favorite.

Whatever made you think to try that combo?

  • Had some leftover sweet pecan butter from this bbq place and put some on my mom's homemade jalapeno cornbread and it was sooo delicous.

If I didn't do what I do for a living, I would want to be a chef.

  • But as far as gameday food goes -- I'm grilling if I am watching from home.

This weekend we did Ribeyes, bbq chicken, and grilled shrimp.

Sides usually consist of chips and dip (my personal favorite is cream cheese and pepper jelly) and maybe some grilled sweet corn and always beer.

You had me with cornbread in an iron skillet with beef and cheese. I can do w/o the peppers , but I might be wrong as it might add just the right amount of flavor. I am by no means a cook and have no clue, but that sounds appealing at first glance. BTW nice looking dogs. I assume that is you in the middle?
