How many top recruits.....

  • do you think bama would land if the players had a midnight curfew or were told they could not be at the strip with other students?

    with the incident with Deandrew, many posters are saying he should not be out late on a school night. obviously you would hope he or other players could avoid incidents while out, but do you really think we could recruit if Coach limited them that much as students. If other students can be out to 2:00 am and can go to night spots, and you told your football players they could not (I am talking out of season, etc.), do you not think other schools would use that against us? aubbie already tries to use the saban "control" against us versus their "players can have fun" approach.

    if it were my son, sure, I would strongly recommend he limit his late nights and where he spent those late nights, but let's be real. kids are going to look for fun, and as long as it is "legal" and not against "team policy", coach is not going to restrict them.

  • If he didn't have class on friday or practice, it's kinda hard to place a curfew. He did have a chance the go to the white house, so his choice obviously had consequences.

    First, Alabama Players are priviledged. 1.) Free education with one of the best academic football infrastructures in the country 2.) Good Meal Plan 3.) preferrential treatment with the Univ. - GMac could park anywhere on campus but Coach Saban's parking space 4.) Girls 5.) Rock star status with the student body/fans.

    They also sacrifice a lot, but it's a sweet ass deal and I promise you they know how to have a good time. I'd really contemplate giving up one of my "boys" to know what it's like to run out the tunnel and have that 4-5 year experience.

    I haven't heard any details of the DW business of how it all got started and I think that will determine if he gets in the dog house at all.

    Meh, National Merit Scholars who come to school on a full ride are privileged too (minus the girls and rock star status). Doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to go out all hours. Football players pay their debt back to the University many times over with the off-season workouts, spring/summer/fall practices, games etc. I'd be willing to bet a 3rd string football player, who's never gonna sniff the NFL, gives more time back to the University trying to improve at football than 99% of the rest of the student body. All I'm saying is they sacrifice enough already, giving them a curfew in the spring when they have no football-related responsibilities is too much.

    No offense intended, but I think the problem you and some others have is separating the "man" from the "position". Regardless of who the President is or if I like him as President or not, I would always honor the "position". I would gladly go to the White House and meet the President, no matter how much I disliked the policies of the particular President in office.
