  • Congratulations, people like you are the reason this state is so ass-backwards and the perpetual laughing stock of the world. It truly blows my mind we re-elected the Bible-thumping d-bag. EMBARRASSING!!! banghead

Update: "Go home with the knowledge that we are going to stand for the acknowledgment of God," Moore said to shouts of "Amen" from supporters.

    We are so screwed.

  • You do nothing but bash Christianity on a regular basis so I guess that makes you an anti-Christian thumping d-bag. He stands for truth and if you dont like the Christian values this state stands for I'll help you pack your bags and you can move to the Northeast or the west coast.

  • I knew there had to be a Roy Moore supporter somewhere on BOL. Explain to me why electing a disgraced, publicly ridiculed Chief Justice that gave the 11th Circuit the middle finger and refused a lawful court order is a good thing. And this state doesn't stand for Christian values, we live in a secular state/nation. If you don't like that, move to a theocracy.

  • I'm a Republican. Electing people like Roy Moore is exactly why we lost the election. Why don't we have some more idiots discuss rape is an "act of God", or why gay people shouldn't be married, or other pointless topics from 1970s.

NEWS FLASH! Modern Republicans don't give a damn about what your faith is! I want a lower tax rate, job security, and fiscal responsibility. I am Christian, but guess what? Not everybody is one. Our job is to promote Christianity as best we can by being good people and inviting others to partake in our faith. If they choose not to do so then that is their prerogative. We should not impose our faith.

Roy Moore used his faith to say what he was doing was right.

    The Crusaders did that too....

Well, I'm a Sunni, so I wouldn't be particularly welcome in Iran. Thanks for the comment though. I'm guessing you're a Roy Moore supporter as well. Tell me, why do you help elect the most embarrassing public official this state has seen in decades?
When virtually every attorney in the state is perplexed/saddened/disappointed in his election, you know it's probably not a good thing.

Vance. He's never defied a lawful order from a superior court, he's never been removed from office, and he's not an embarrassment to this state. Enough of a reason for me.

I haven't lived in Bama for awhile so I am not connected with the political figures and their beliefs etc... I can agree with you that if all you say is true and public knowledge about Moore, then there are people in that state that have ulterior motives and will gladly overlook certain things in hopes of benefiting themselves. Sad but true.

Roy Moore stood up for something he believed in and the values this country was founded on. This country needs more people like him unlike your kind.

It's all well and good that he believes in something and fights for it. The problem is, as Chief Justice, he's a servant of the state and its people. ALL its people. The Supreme Court is not the place for him to get on his soapbox and spread his views. It's a place for him to interpret and uphold the law. He can evangelize as much as he wants, AS LONG AS it doesn't get in the way of his duties. Having a CJ that so blatantly disregards the CONSTITUTION in favor of his own religious beliefs is frightening, and a sure indicator of how backwards our state really is.

What's more embarrassing: standing up for your religion and what you believe is right by a simple act of defiance or strapping a bomb to yourself and blowing yourself and innocent women/children up because you think it will get you 72 virgins? Which one of those is the most laughable and ignorant?

I'm not a Moore supporter and I didn't vote for the guy but I can respect what he did if it's truly what he believed. You should be glad you live in a place where you can criticize a leader and not get your head cut off on television. Now STFU.

  • Beyond the veneer of religious zealotry that is unbecoming of a jurist is the fact that he was a terribly ineffective justice his first term. As head administrator of the court, he barely kept the place open, failing to secure necessary funds and, instead, choosing to do battle with the legislature, threatening to deny access to justice for all Alabamans.

Furthermore, in "standing up for what he believed" during the Ten Commandments debacle, he wasted tens of thousands of dollars of YOUR tax dollars in fines by refusing to remove the edifice.

That this man was reelected is nothing more than a travesty.

Wait, first you compare his "simple act of defiance" with suicide bombers, then go on to praise him for doing what he truly believed... Couldn't you argue suicide bombers "truly believe" in what they're doing? Sure, but I don't respect them for it. Same with Moore. He might "truly believe" in what he's doing, it sure as hell doesn't mean he's right. In fact, his act of defiance was in direct violation of the Constitution, you know, that document that assures I can "criticize a leader and not get my head cut off on television".

I didn't vote for him but if his election perplexed/saddened/disappointed virtually every attorney in this state then at least it accomplished some good.
