We've had DirecTV for a year or so now and really haven't had any issues with it going out during weather. I seemed to have had more issues with Dish than Direc as far as losing signal. Location has some to do with the signal also, but we've enjoyed Direc so far. rtr

I have direct tv for about a year and 4 months now.It has only went out once during a bad thunder storm/rain and wind.I switched from Time Warner cable.It went out a lot more than my Direct tv has.

You only have trouble in the case of severe thunderstorms, and then only for a couple minutes...never been an issue during Bama games, but if I ever saw that here was potential for bad weather during a game, I'd have a contingency plan in place...

It is not terrible, but it will go out. Get a weather radio and you should be good. I would let them install an antenna if the price wasn't too bad.

Had it for years but recently switched to Uverse. Make sure when he aligns the dish he gets signal levels as close to 100% as possible. THis helps the rain fade issue. Also make sure the base where the dish is mounted is solid. If it's on a pole - make sure it's in concrete. If it's mounted on your house, it should be attached to sturdy structure. However, it will occasionally go out when HEAVY rain is between your dish and the satellite (generally south of your location). FYI - rain can interrupt the new digital HDTV over-the-air signals that your over-the-air antenna is installed to receive as well. It seems to be less prone to lose signal strength but it definitely will. I really liked it overall. I changed to save on my internet/phone/cable bundled price. I like Uverse too but not any better than I liked DirecTV.

I have uverse and I'm switching. Surround sound issues with a BS work around that I don't want to do. Plus, no 3D.

antenna will work good...I have one and it is an option in rain...rain is rarely and issue and when it is it is rarely for than a few minutes...as others have stated, no freaking way I'd every go back to cable.
