OT:random "celeb" spotting

  • Extremely random but have any of you ever run into someone in a random location, that you are certain is an actor of some sort, but you cannot place their name, etc?
That kind of stuff drives me nuts - I cannot let it go.

For example: I was in the Publix on Overton Rd (Birmingham) today, and I could SWEAR that he has played some supporting roles on TV and movies - Criminal Minds keeps popping up in my head - but I cannot figure it out.
Tall, older guy, thick mustache (almost Sam Elliott thick). He and I almost bumped into each other in the door - and I looked up and did the cursory "How are you doing" When I looked at him, it must've been obvious that I recognized him, because he had that "yes, I'm that guy" look on his face.

I have tried every Google search key words that i can think of, but zero luck. Argh. Cannot go to sleep!!

  • I have had two or three interesting "celebrity" sightings.

The most "unusual" was probably in Washington National airport in D.C a couple of years after 9/11. I am standing at a urinal and look over to my left, and Rudy Guiliani, is taking a leak at the next urinal. Caught me off guard and I just said hello and he did the same.

My son was in the scouts over 15 years ago, and we were driving vans through Wyoming and had stopped at a grocery store to get some stuff to make sandwiches, etc. for all the kids. I look up and there is Alan Simpson, the former Senate minority whip. He was actually very nice and we talked a few minutes about our trip through Wyoming.

I also had a brief encounter with Kris Kristofferson in a parking lot. He was getting out of a Rolls Royce. My ride was just a little bit less than a Rolls (g), but again we exchanged pleasantries briefly.

Jeff Fisher, former Titans coach, had a son that went to elementary and middle school with my daughter and I saw and spoke with him several times at school events. He was always pretty friendly.

Living in the greater Nashville, TN area, I have seen a number of music personalities at plays, restaurants, ball games etc., but not in such a way to have a conversation or anything. I have been in a local coffee shop in Frankilin, TN when Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman (they have a home in Leipers Fork, a small community a few miles from Franklin) have stopped for coffee but I have not spoken to them. I once saw Howard Cossell and once Robert Redford across the room at a restaurant, but I did not bother them.

I know exactly what you mean though. Nothing is more annoying that to see someone, know that I know who they are, but cannot figure out exactly who it is or how I know them.

  • Worked at a golf course where Jordan played once. He stiffed us on the tip.

Cleaned Charles Barkley's shoes. Gave me $3. Gave the beer cart girl $20.

  • I bet the cart girl had a couple of "assets" you did not have (G).

One of these days I will come across one, but at this point I have not seen one "ugly" cart girl.

  • Kind of a round about celebrity tidbit. I lived in Baltimore MD for a while. One of my really good friends was a towel girl at the gym that Michael Phelps worked out of pre olympics. She once gave him the whole "oral celebrity treatment". Afterwards, she said that his lack of penile fortitude was probably the reason he was so fast in the water. Also said he was quite the douche. Oh yeah, I also almost beat the hell out of the head roadie for Brooks & Dunn when I was working back stage at one of their concerts. Ronnie and Kicks personally apologized for the incident after their show.

  • Just 3 weeks ago, I was in the Donut Hole in Santa Roas Bch, FL eating a late lunch and thought the voice in the booth behind me sounded familiar. When I got up to pay I noticed it was Jerry Jones. He was eating 2 pieces of ham that would put an elephant down for a nap. I was waiting for the news report of the coronary he had.

  • Ran into Jimmy Buffet at Capt D's in Ozark. His tour bus stopped on the side of Hwy 231 and he and a few others went in and ate. Hank Jr eats at Barnhills in Troy quite often.

  • Living in NYC I see celebrities everywhere. My favorite was at the dry cleaners. After I had dropped off my stuff, I turned around to leave and there was Morgan Freeman waiting to drop his stuff off. It was awesome.
