Actually alaploy, you're right. Alcohol and marijuana don't compare when it comes to medical issues. Alcohol is MUCH worse for your body per numerous international studies. Also, the idea of weed being a "gateway drug" comes from ill-informed people or fear mongerers. It actually is a "gate stopper" for other, worse drugs and alcohol. Weed also isn't addictive like alcohol. So, there really isn't anything to most peoples negatives (minus the obvious fact that its illegal per our government), just bad stigma and/or poor research.

    Another:
correct. grass has none of the chemical properties that make other illegal drugs addictive.

    Mine:
Yea, Its not addictive, I got a friend who's been smoking for 30 years and hes not addicted!!! LMAO!

Haha how bad is your research? People who smoke everyday and then say they don't feel right if they haven't smoke are some of the dumbest people. That's called an addiction. There are also studies that show weed withdrawal symptoms similar to any other drug withdrawal symptoms. Irritability, uncomfortableness, lack of sleep, etc. Please do some research on the subject and stop listening to your stoner friends.

Smoke all you want. I really could not care less but believing it is not addictive is one of the most uniformed arguments ever.

Well let me rephrase my last comment. I agree with this guy BUT It is addictive I just don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, or as bad as alcohol.

Hey, I was stoned my whole 11th and 12th grade year (don't know how I graduated), but I quickly realized if I wanted to be someone or have anything, it had to stop! It was hard, but I found my memory again!

That's because it's awesome, not because they tweak without it.

I see what you are saying, but try doing oxycontin for 30 years and try to quit. It will be much, much worse than irritability or headache. I think you are confusing addiction with just simply liking a drug. If you drank a highly caffeinated drink everyday for a long time, and tried to quit, you would have some of the same symptoms you just described. Just because you have some small symptoms after stopping doing something that you have done for a long time does not mean you are addicted. Some people can't sleep at night without reading for a while. Does that make them addicted to reading? There is a big difference between mental addiction and physical dependence addiction. Believe me, I know. I'm currently in a methadone clinic, as I am a recovering opiate addict.

Well, the way I look at it is I don't my kids doing it, so how can I say theres nothing wrong with it? By the way, I only had my 2 19yo sisters when I was in the 11th and 12th grade, so if I would have had some adult guidance I'm sure I wouldn't have smoked as much (on the way to rehab). haha

Yes there is a difference between a physical and a mental addiction but not much actually. New studies on addiction have found that the brain functions differently while "on" something as opposed to being off of it. When you smoke, serotonin is released from your brain giving you the happy feeling. If you smoke a lot eventually your brain stops producing serotonin all together because it is getting from an outside source. Which means people don't "feel normal" if they haven't smoked and some go into a state of depression if they haven't smoke in a while.

Another drug does the same exact thing to the brain and it's called ecstasy, which is labled as an addictive drug put weed isn't? Doesn't make much sense when you break it down. Guess what else has been found to be addictive? Sex, just ask tiger.

Again, I don't care if people smoke. I am glad they enjoy it. But learn something about the effects before shooting your mouth off about it. Just the argument that is it not an addictive drug is completely moronic on it's very best day.

    true.

Bottom line is, ANYTHING that makes you "feel happy" has the potential to make you addicted to it. Whether you do or not is all determined by your personality traits. ANYTHING can be addicting and have withdrawal symptoms if taken away abruptly.

  • It's addictive! I am a substance abuse counselor and I see people everyday addicted to marijuana. When you are about to lose kids, spouse, or go to prison if you fail a drug test and you still pop for weed, then you are addicted!
