The End of an Era

  • @TheCrimsonWhite: The pledge program is over. It's not going to be brought back. It's done." - Kat Gillan, Director of Greek Affairs on fall pledge period

Apparently enough panty-wastes whined to their mommas that actives were being mean to them. Rather than quit pledgeship, they snitched and got the whole thing shut down. So brave.

Posts like this remind me why I'm proud I never joined a frat at Alabama. Had a lot of good Greek friends, and respect their right to have these organizations. Glad I stayed out. I'd never want to support a system where there are people that think it's fun to haze other people, then complain if someone "snitched"--a nice derrogatory term that means "told the authorities when something that wasn't supposed to be happening was happening."

The thing is, if they didn't like what the organization was doing, they could've walked out and not looked back. Is hazing stupid; sometimes no, usually yes. But it's all voluntary. If they didn't want to be subject to it anymore, drop out.

  • Pretty sure this is only for the rest of this year. Just how I'm reading in to it. Check the rest of their tweets. However, going forward in the future, it will be different. It is what it is.

  • The Greek stuff is a hold over from when getting as drunk as possible as often as possible was the goal.
Be happy to see the whole thing go away. Having one of the best party schools is nothing to be proud of.
    Good riddance.

I see that point, but there are a ton of 18 year old kids that show up to Ttown, far from home, no friends and they'll do ANYTHING to try and fit in and find a place they belong. Just because they're willing to go through it doesnt make it OK.....you also have to note that for some kids it aint voluntary. If Daddy was a ____, Jr. is expected to be a _____ no mattter what he has to go through to do it.......and the problem is its typically just a lot of foolish crap, but then there;s that one a-hole that takes it too far....

  • You're right about the one guy that always goes to far...I had a guy who was a typical guy 5'9 little jackass who felt he could get away with stuff by hiding behind the other members...When i became a active I got my revenge and made him cry in front of everybody and i didnt even have to hit or anything he just thought i was...It felt really good...RTR

I am not a fan of the frats in the slightest. That being said, I 100% agree with you - If you don't like what a fraternity is doing, move on to another or get out of the deal all-together.

Alabama has a strong Greek foundation, but it's by no means a majority. I think around 29% of male undergrads are in a fraternity. Of those, probably less than 15% are in a house that actually hazes. So you have 85% of the male student body who doesn't have to deal with it. If 85% of the student body can fit in without being in a hazing fraternity, then your John Doe out of town 18 year olds can do it too.

Can't tell if serious. If so, here's another rendering.

  • So what does this mean? Soroities can't take any more girls? Girls can't pledge a sorority?

    BamaTusks

  • But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

Just multiple incidents with multiple fraternities. Nothing specific.

Won't attach correctly for some reason. Be warned, horrendously written article. But basically, enough pledges have complained this year to have it shut down for the rest of this year at least.
